Exciting stormy weekend

Post: # 138524Post Odsox »

Apparently we have stormy weather coming tomorrow (Saturday) for us in the western fringes. (especially those who live in Co Galway  )
Affected areas are from me in SW Ireland all the way up the west coast to western & northern Scotland.
Winds of 80mph and wave heights of 40 feet and several inches of rain.
Should be interesting
Tony

I was hoping to get that bloody greenhouse up this weekend..... oh well.... I guess we'll cosy up inside for ANOTHER weekend  we have had a pretty bad winter her this year - it is always too cold, too wet or too rainy to leave the house - I think I am going slowly mad :geek:

It's already raining and a bit windy here already Julie, but nothing dramatic yet.

This morning's forecast says 90mph winds! We are fairly used to 80+ - how much difference do you think this will make. I'm not sure whether to send OH out to stand in front of the polytunnel or the windows

OK, the winds are starting here now - It's fine though, 'cos I am having a jama day & I've decided to stay in my slobby PJ's all day!

Hubby, however, has to go & get the peats in..... and I've never known the dogs to be so quick outside either!

Mr Odsox - you should know that 70 miles is nuffing..... I do nearly that just to get to our nearest Argos/Homebase/Penneys.... oh, the joys of remoteness!
Anyway, I hope it doesn't get too scary for you down there - up here, we're just going to batten down the hatches & cross our fingers that all is ok when it's passed.
The kettle's on the range, it's warm & relatively draught free & my knitting project will be finished today - a good day, I think!

Julie.

It's certainly on it's way Julie. We have just had a very stormy hour or so with the strongest winds I've seen for several years, but the only casualty at the moment is our satellite dish has blown round a bit ... so no TV tonight.
I was out in it tying the dish down to stop it doing any damage and I was having trouble not getting blown over ... and that's with my post Christmas podge.
Seems to have calmed significantly now though, in fact the sun has just put in an appearance.

When we first moved here 14 years ago a little blow like that would have meant a couple of days without electricity. As much as I hate to admit it, the ESB have done a fine job upgrading our power lines over the last 5 years.

Well, good luck to all. If it's any consolation, here on the east coast,it's relatively calm & mild (just as well,as our bungalow is surrounded by some mighty oaks!).
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

It's gone from here now, just a bit breezy with frequent beefy showers.
The temperature went up to 17c earlier in the "tropical plume" I believe they call it.
Hope Julie is OK, parts of Co Galway are without electricity tonight.
