The not the New Years Resolutions Thread
I really dislike making New Years Resolutions as I always break them but next year I want achieve certain things or at least put a food in the right direction... anyone wishing to join me in listing what you'd like to do or get out of next year??
1) Keep on losing weight, seeing my dietician and get my health on a better track
2) Get my business moving and start to steer it into the direction I want it to be going in
3) Keep looking for a house in the areas I want to live in but in the meantime finish improving and decorating my wee flat
4) Try at least one new thing every week or at least each month to try and broaden my horizons a little
5) Make one gift towards next Christmas every month
6) Get out of the flat more... sounds silly but being disabled, having some phobias and suffering from panic attacks you tend to end up getting stuck within four walls which in turn adds to you feeling depressed... vicious circle which I need to baby step away from
7) Make a list of and start making things for my wedding
8) Become more environmentally friendly and self sufficient
9) Move towards making all my own toiletries and things like bath salts to help my OH's Psoriasis etc
10) Carry on researching (or learning to) my family tree and at least find out more details on the generations I already have
11) Get back to giving more than lip service to my faith
12) ... well I'm sure there is a 12 but for now that is all I can think of...
Would love to see what yours are and if any of us could be inspired by others lists, sometimes we forget or overlook certain things that others don't and then suddenly find yourself saying "D'oh... and that too'
Now they're not Resolutions, it doesn't matter if they don't get done... it's just some things I would like to achieve through next year not things I must do!

Re: The not the New Years Resolutions Thread
I am going to get fit - I have just bought an exercise bike (they were out of stock so asked for the display model which we got for €70 instead of €99). One of these days I will be fit enough to ride a real bike.

1. Build the patio, pergola, firepit, barbeque and outdoor wood oven that I've been promising to do for, like, ever.
2. Get to the beach at least 3 days a week in the summer.
3. Build that 2nd chicken run so we can alternate the chooks on a monthly basis.
4. Goats.

Re: The not the New Years Resolutions Thread
1 simplify both my home and business life
2 Break habits
3 Get the websites built for my businesses
4 De-Clutter (I still have stuff in boxes from my first marriage and I have been with Jules now for over 17 years) I really must sort those boxes out.
5 Start selling said clutter on e-bay etc
6 Get out cycling for fun and with others a bit more. I cycle pretty much every day but only to commute
I will probably think of a few more as time goes on

Re: The not the New Years Resolutions Thread
I'm wary of setting myself up for a fall, as I've only ever managed to keep one resolution in my life, but here goes,
1. Start cooking from scratch more than I already do and produce healthier meals so my DH and I can shift some of the extra weight we've put on since we moved up here to the land of the cheap carbohydrate!
2. Start to de-clutter and flog or freecycle the excess. We moved 9 months ago and still haven't unpacked everything as we're still working on the house but frankly, if we haven't missed what's in those boxes we probably don't need it!
3. Walk more - we have no real excuse not to. We live close to the cliff tops with stunning views and ought to be walking for pleasure and exercise daily.
4. Leave the car at home - we live within walking distance of the town, and we can get the essentials locally. My excuse is that it's a steep uphill walk back, but if I did it every other day and just bought the few things we needed I should be able to manage it, and it's cheaper than a gym membership!
5. Be more creative - and complete some of the half-finished projects, then begin the ones I bought supplies for but never got round to starting...
6. Keep in touch with family and friends more - it wouldn't kill me to write a letter a week, or pick up the phone and call people occasionally.
7. Spend less time on the computer - Ish is brilliant, useful, constructive and totally justifiable, but I can waste hours on Facebook etc., when I should be making far better use of my time.
8. Tame the garden and start growing my own veg.
9. Get organised, and simplify/greenify our lives.
10. Stop spending money when I could spend time instead...
I want to reduce/eliminate all unnecessary outgoings next year, and I know that Ish will help me do it.
I think 10 is enough - if I keep half of these for half the year I'll be doing well!

Re: The not the New Years Resolutions Thread
Where to start
Get some control back over my life instead of dancing to mother's/daughter's tunes
Finish the house renovations
Extend and improve the veg garden
Make better use of the polytunnel
Swap the shop / workshop over so customers will see me making my products and not continually ask me if I make them
Make a success of my business i.e. get some income from it (I'm not looking to be a millionaire)
Get out more into the beautiful countryside - it's literally on the other side of my garden gate
Go bodyboarding
Not buy anything new for a year (except lino for the kitchen floor and some wood for various jobs)
Get a decent secondhand Belfast sink

Re: The not the New Years Resolutions Thread
the question is where do to start and where to finish, but the main ones for this family are:-
To continue to push at the hospital to get sons stomach problems sorted out
To be able to go jogging with the eldest two boys and a) keep up b) enjoy it and c) still be able to talk/breath/stand at the end of it
To get to the allotment everyday
To get our baby to realise that 4.30 is not waking up time
To de clutter the house properly, rather than just hiding the tat
But the most important one is that we are all happy and well

the ever growing luvpie household currently contains, 4 boys, 4 chickens, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 4 fish, an empty tropical fish tank waiting new arrivals, now are we daft to look at our broody hen thinking, if we got some fertilised eggs........
