Favourite word
Having just read the "Active post" re;"My carbon footprint", which then went onto the definition of the word "parsinomious" (or something),i thought -that's a good word. My personal favourite is Vituperous (poison tongued),......what's yours??
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

Re: Favourite word
I like the word calumny. It's one of those that you can use and not many will know what you are saying but you make a good point IYKWIM!

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I quite like mellifluous, but onomatopoeia is by far my favourite.

Re: Favourite word
It's not a single word (and it's bringing the tone down to toddler level), but as a fan of Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, and a fan of the Ferocious Beast in particular, I like the phrase, 'Great Googly Moogly'. My partner has it has his ring tone on his phone
My 2-year-old says it - 'geet googy moogy' and it's so sweet.
No really, it is!

Re: Favourite word
Twitterpated, that's my favorite word. But I get so few opportunities to use it :p
Re: Favourite word
To go back to `parsimonious` - my OH loves it when I say `frugal`. I`ve got the common speech impediment where `r` sounds like `w` but for some reason it`s worse following `f` so frugal comes out as `ferwoogle`. I try not to say `fruit` or `fright`too often as he could laugh himself into a fit!

I just want to be a surveyor so I'd have the chance to say it on a daily basis

and so it was, God gave us firefox dictionary plugin

Onomatopoeia itself is onomatopoetic (that's not a real word, but I like it too)
There must be an even more interesting word that describes a word that describes itself... but now I can't think of any other examples

Oh I know I shouldn't laughMerry wrote:To go back to `parsimonious` - my OH loves it when I say `frugal`. Re: Favourite word
I have always thought moist is such a great word, quite descriptive.
Miasma is also up there.
Language is a great thing , I'd like to know more about where names come from, for example
who came up with : gusset! really quite a naughty sounding word.
