Well done Russ! I'm a bit surprised the allotment is so close to people's houses/back gardens though! Handy for them if they get a plot at the bottom of the garden, but not very private or nice for them if they don't. :?

Looking good Russ!
Our site is bordered on two sides by houses and over the years most of the neighbours have contrived to rent the plot at the bottom of their garden.
I`m green with envy at the way they can stroll on to their plot while I have a half hour slog each way.
Trouble is - some of them have developed the attitude that the plot is in fact part of their garden and have put up six foot fences with no gate.
I`ve even had people including the plot in their house description when putting it on the market - in fact one woman, when being warned for `inappropriate use` (she wanted to concrete her plot to use it to park her car & caravan) said indignantly that she`d paid £2000 for the plot to the bloke she`d bought the house from.
We are stardust, we are golden, and we`ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Fortunatly lord zetland gave the land to the people of redcar as a gift to grow produce on with a clause that no buildings can be built or used for car parks ect.
I was approached yesterday by a lady who wants to start up an allotment association, she said if she can get enough people to sighn up the council will give us the building at the end of the allotments to use as a meeting place and a small shop for the allotment holders, wich also opens up grants and things to by rotorvators ect, so jane and i put our names down as have a few others so its looking pretty good for the future of the allotments here.
I read through the terms and conditions of our allotment and thought that this was quite amusing
4a the tennant (the undersighned) will at no time be allowed to erect any permanent structure higher than the fence line, if any are seen by the council surveyer said erection will be demolished immediatly
Jane has banned me from any associations with clause 4a

It's not the height of the erection, its what you do with it that counts

You're doing great, Russ. I got my plot a couple of months earlier than you and it still doesn't look anywhere near as good. What have you eaten from it so far?

Where I live there are several sites throughout the city. Some seem to be bang smack in the middle of housing estates. As I live on the edge of the city, though, the site I go to only has houses along the front. Another side has a broad band of trees lining a busy road with no buildings on, and the other two sides are school fields. Although we don't currently have too much trouble at our site, I do sometimes think that the ones with houses on all sides are probably less open to opportunist vandals and thieves because they are so hidden from the roads and there's always the chance someone in a house will see you while you're setting fire to a shed or whatever. :hmph:
