Uh? Never heard of that, unless it's a nicotine one.

My IE is 8 by the way not 6, Richie.

My OH is up to date with everything to do with computers and he's never heard of this, and nobody is talking about it on the other forum I use.

you know when your computer downloads and update and wants to restart your computer to get it going.. etc..? that is usually fixing a problem like this. They issue them regularly .. and irregularly if something pops up.. like this recent problem. the fix is called a patch

Thanks, didn't know that. I thought it was just called an update! But then it's all in French on my pooter so it's called 'mise a jour' and I think I've had two this week.

I've got firefox installed now and opened it up but then I clicked on an email of a topic I've been watching and it opened up IE. :dontknow:

So I suppose I will use Firefox for looking at my bank or ordering anything but will stick to IE for everything else as that's what keeps taking over (if I click on a link it opens in a new window in IE!).

I've been missing from the forum for a few months mainly because we are back in the UK and my laptop decided to die on me after the first week. I then bought a netbook which was faulty and only worked at snail pace. It took forever to negotiate a full refund and not endless repairs etc. So now I have a nice new (and horrendously expensive) notepad which seems to be working wonderfully.

The whole point of this is that my son (he runs an IT business) immediately recommended I should download Firefox straight away to keep the computer secure. I've done so and find that it works perfectly well for me. I know he has always used Mozilla as have lots of his IT colleagues so presumably there must have been a good reason for it even before this latest issue. He also recommended Outlook rather than Outlook Express but I gather that's a whole different story.

Now I just need to get my head around using this Office 2007 thing...
Growing old is much better then the alternative!

I wasn't asking how to make it my default browser as I keep clicking on NO when it asks me as I don't want it. I just assumed that as I've subscribed to topics here whilst using IE that's why it came up. I don't like Firefox anyway and it won't open up my daily jigsaw puzzle!
