Hate the bloody things!

OH loves 'em, and keeps putting more in - in the lawn and orchard. That's fine, but then comes spring lawn-mowing time and it's made triply difficult by having to go around bloody snowdrops and bloody daffodils. One day, I'm just going to mow everything and claim I had no idea they were there.

Or tell OH to do the mowing? Now there's an idea!

Hello there ,

yes the first signs of spring will be expected in July , when the council starts gritting the roads .
Since the 2nd week of December we have had frost , last week the school buses were not even bringing the kids to school , the roads were ice .
Coming week the temperature is to drop to -4 daytime temperture , so let's hope for July .

Some snowdrop flowers open
Primroses starting to flower or bush up and look perky
Tulips starting to appear
Buds and new growth on all of my 5 hellebores (dead chuffed cos 2 I grew from seed and they are sooooooo slow growing!)
Pinkness to the Japonicas with the buds starting to swell.

Not a lot but it's a start and the snowdrops are cheerful which is what we need!

Also the Hebe that looks dead as a dodo isn't as there are some tiny green buds down at the base of the stems!

we have sunshine its still cold but, we have sunshine!!

so im off out in the garden to do a bit if clearing and pot washing! need all my pots ready to start the pumpkins off, starting them a little earlier, same with courgettes ( as i have some very big pots for them to go in on the from garden) and are staying indoors for a few weeks.

this is so exciting, i did ok last year but it wasnt enough or for long enough so hopefully this year ill be in free fruit and veg for longer!

It's damp and grey today bit quite mild - yesterday was lovely and I saw a red admiral butterfly. Snowdrops are out and we have 2 lambs BUT it is only Feb - lots of chances for winter to return but I'm getting on with the digging while I can

Yup it is winter job time (at long bloody last!) so that means apple and pear pruning for me and lots of digging for my OH. Have planted two new plum trees in our orchard which is much more moisture retaining than the rest of our land which is on a slope and - wonder of wonders I discovered why - there's clay in them thar soil - best late Xmas present I've ever had!!! I thought they were stones and was picking them out as we were planting only to find they were lumps of grey 'gold' - clay!!!

(Anybody who knows me over the years on this forum will know how much I moan about my horribly dry sandy soil and the fact we don't get any plums on the trees in the garden unless I irrigate with a seep hose, and even then it's hit and miss!).

Daffodils are not out yet although the daffodil fields are showing yellow.
Mine are just beginning to show signs of colour.
Very late this year though, usually the first week of January for the first daffs.

hello there ,

Odsox , is Cork in the south of France ???

Here in Saxony we are still up to our Bol*^*^is snow , the forecast for coming week is more frost ands snow .
It is only been like this for the past 8 weeks though , getting a bit boring , our drive is iced .

But I was thinking of the nice pictures , yous be getting all the bulbs and flowers as they come in the warm season , spring some people call it . But because we are having such a cold and long winter , the good side
could be that we will get an explosions of everything in March !

To see everything flower at once after such a long white cold winter , could it be compared to hallucinating ?
