Premise 1. Global warming is or isnt happening. (TRUE)

Premise 2. All government's take taxes. Always have. Always will. (TRUE)

Premise 3. Some governments want to tax us in ways they claim may help combat warming. (TRUE)

Conclusion: Therefore Global Warming isnt happening. (FALSE)

Yup.

I've news for some of you.

Such a conclusion does NOT follow from those premises.

i think a lot of the problem here is NOT if people believe in AGW - more if they believe in all the hype put out about it - even a rank cynic such as myself will concede that how many billion odd people there are in the world must be affecting the climate somewhat - its just the credibility of those pushing all this - motive people always look for the motive !! - and i am sorry to say as usual this whole thing is MORE about money , ego , research grants etc , than saving the planet -

IF the politicos of the world had seriously wanted to do what they can about the present situation and that which MAY happen in time to come - then they should have done so at Copenhagen - they should - say OK people - this is serious - so no jetting off to Spain or where ever unnecessarily - essential flights only ( but wont because some one will loose money ) - you cant just drive your cars willy nilly anymore - must car share and we will give BIG incentives to firms to make electric cars - ICE vehicles will be reserved for essential uses only ( but they wont because they know that's political suicide ) - that you must stop wasting millions of watts of power for night time advertising in cities ( but they wont because it will loose someone money and piss off the companies ) - need i go on ?????

so its hypocrisy - we have to cut down - pay more - do less polluting etc etc SO LONG AS IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE LIFE STYLES OF THOSE WHO HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO ALL THIS -the rest of you poor erks just do as you are told !! :violent1:

i guess when we see our "leaders" setting an example ( Gordon brown in an electric mini ?? - i'd pay good money to see that .lol ) -THEN some of us might take a bit more notice - TILL THEN THOUGH ???

CARRY ON REGARDLESS FOLKS :thumbright: - bistromathics rule ok **

** read the guide for an explanation
the validity of ones ideas are best measured by the resistance they attract

and if enough people tell you are WRONG - do it ANYWAY !!

Now THAT is one of the more sensible things I have read on this subject. Too many rich people want their Caribbean vacations, and THAT is why they can't allow themselves to believe the evidence.

They start with the conclusion, "I want my Caribbean vacation," and work backwards: "Therefore I can't cut back on my emissions. And since not cutting back my emissions would be morally reprehensible if GW were true, it must be false. And, since the scientists claim to have good evidence for it, then they must be wrong. But, since I can't actually refute the evidence, I'll just go to Copenhagen - almost as good as a Caribbean vacation - and do nothing."

The logic is backwards. If you were to approach the subject forwards, the conclusion would be inescapable.

Before I leave this thread, I would challenge the global warming deniers to explain why they believe human-produced carbon dioxide is NOT causing global warming. I don't mean to give al alternate explanation - those are cheap and mean nothing. I mean to actually show that you understand the scientific reasoning behind the process and then refute it with evidence. It will be a difficult challenge, because I have never yet met a denier who actually understood the logic that he was denying.

Here are a couple of hints:
Step 1: How did CO2 get to be the villain?
Step 2: If CO2 isn't doing it, what is preventing it from doing it?

er cant /wont believe the evidence - or just don't give a s*** ??

the old " sod you jack - I'm alright " still rules as far as some go methinks :angryfire:

never mind what you sow - so do you reap - karma and all that  - we ALL gonna have to account for our actions one day - be it in this life - or the next :angel10: - where what you had and who you ( thought) you where will mean didly squat :thumbright:
