At the end of last week I received a call form the production team for Trinny and Suzannahs new TV prog - The Great British Body. The criteria was that you had to have been born in the same county as your parents and 3 of your grand parents. I ticked that box so they invited me along to take part in the filming. It was only an hour up the road so I figured it would be an interesting day out for my daughter and me. They even sent us the train ticket!! Woo Hoo!
So there we were in the crowd and the instruction was that all those who considered themselves to be average step to one side and those who didn't, to the other. So feeling reasonably "normal" I plumped for the "Average" camp - not realising what was to come
. We were invited one by one to be weighed - and I was one of about 6 considered of normal weight. The we (the 6) were measured for height - the lady before me was chosen first as normal - on the basis that she was measured to the top of her hair. Then Trinny decided to measure me - my hair is flatter - and guess what - I came out bang on average!So there I was 11st 2 5ft 4 and someone who has always felt slightly on the outside of things, considered by many to be a bit freaky, only recently become happy in her own skin and the black sheep of the family officially declared Mrs Average 2008! Boy it feels good!
It was actually a very interesting exercise for us to be involved in. It was good for my daughter, who is just at the age of "you're too fat/thin/flat chested" etc to see that in truth we are all wonderfully unique, and being comfortable with who you are is what's important - not how much you look like the latest supermodel or skinny pop star!
