Help!!! Nothing whatsoever to do with SSish, unless it's the preservation of aged Ps. Mother Dear has decided to fall in love with the music from the current DFS advert. I know it's Puccini: Gianni Schicchi: O Mio Babbino Caro (Oh My Beloved Father), but I can't find out which version. I think it's either Renee Fleming or Sarah Brightman. Anyone help?

I've discovered that if you google for the company they often have info about their adverts on the web site - so it might be worth a look

Who was your grandmother? And when was she "touring"? Being a Northumbrian I'm intregued! Ok that's just posh for nosey!MKG wrote:For anyone else in the same situation, I can now tell that it IS Sarah Brightman who, according to my mum, sounds just like my grandmother (who used to be taken all around Northumberland to sing). Oh - the things I've missed out on ...

Her name was Isabella Johnson and she was born in Berwick upon Tweed. She was brought up by her grandparents (farmers) who used to cart her around (literally - we're talking horse-drawn stuff here) to various fetes and festivals because she had such a pure voice. That, of course, was when she was very young, so we're looking at one hundred years ago.

Could have been worse - her surname could have been Necessaryonabycycle!MKG wrote:No - I tell a lie. Johnson was her married name. Her maiden name was Bell. Isabella Bell. So, a sense of humour isn't a modern invention.
Hhhmmm - interesting project - think I might look up some local history!
My great great Grandfather was also a musician in this area - he wrote tunes still played today!
Oops - think we hijacked the thread a bit there!

Another that bugs me is the opening music to the Royal Navy documentary "HMS Brilliant" - any takers?
I am not an opera bloke but have Bach's St Matthew Passion blaring at the moment.
