It looks like it. There are no 'real' budgets on there at all. They've all got loads of money to spare, and when they go over budget, they run to the bank who miraculously transfer £20k into their bank accounts!

Maybe i should apply on my own...i can get a mortgage for £45k...builld something in the country with that!! Oh...and i'd like a real green house...not one that has passive heating, but has lots of halogen spots...

Maybe an earthship...

Smooth Hound wrote:what concerns me more than people not taking part in the community, is the situation with empty houses and second homes, especially when there is such a hortage of houses, which pushes the prices up even more, i was talking on another forum about this, and i think there should be some sort of legislation on this subject, whilst there is nowhere to build and no more council houses are being built, not sure what but something really needs to be done about this,
I agree; but I live in someone's second home so I can't really hope for legislation to stop people having more than one lol! she/he/it treats it like dirt though. It's also a "right to buy" ex council place. I live in the devil's butthole lol!!!
there is this one house which we drive past to get to Leigh on Sea (truely one of my most favorite places on the planet), it's overlooking hadleigh green and sort of looks down on hadleigh castle. it's beautiful, needs one hell of a lot of work and by the looks of the stuff in the garden and the windows nobody's been in it for the last 3 or so years. it's an end terrace with a bay window on the corner of the house that looks like a turret. if I had the means I'd find out who owns it and offer them wads of cash for it.

Here you pay somewhere around 3% of purchase price in the equivalent of stamp duty for a first home, 18% for a second home.

Also, ICI (similar to poll tax) is much, much higher for 2nd homes.

Still, that doesn't prevent people snapping up holiday homes left, right & centre. Fortunately burglaries of holiday homes are so common that people soon wise up.

I am extremely keen to find a family or couple who are about to restore a property or set up a business with a passion for all things green in the forefront of their mind...

. It would be a shame to find sixteen stories and not have at least one of them based on the desire for a 'green home'. Furthermore, we are looking for people who have 'real' budgets, and ideally who will be carrying out the majority of the work themselves.
No matter how many times my eyes read the words above my brain translates them as:

"We want to film something so the TV viewing public can point and laugh at the hippies who are providing the set, props and entertainment and working themselves stupid and going broke, whilst we make money from it".

Weird how my brain works at times...

I get quite a few approaches from production companies asking if I know anyone about to make the move and "live the dream" (whatever the Frank Bough that is). The last lot were Finnish for Pete's sake. I think these companies are running out of rich, slightly dim, people who want to be on tellly at any cost, even if they look like complete dolts doing it, but I can't believe anyone wants to watch that kind of rubbish any longer.

I went to university with that Catherine Gee, me.

Hi Dave & Andy,

I am now looking for stories/leads on any interesting projects that revolve around creating a self-sufficient lifestyle.

.... and I am extremely keen to find a family or couple who are about to restore a property or set up a business with a passion for all things green in the forefront of their mind...

It would be a shame to find sixteen stories and not have at least one of them based on the desire for a 'green home'. Furthermore, we are looking for people who have 'real' budgets, and ideally who will be carrying out the majority of the work themselves.
It's us!!! - We've moved to a France from a semi in Dartford, hope to be a lot more self sufficient and are setting up green holiday cottages (eco-gites) where we will be doing most of the work ourselves. And we do have a bit of money behind us.

BUT - there is no way I'd let a camera crew anywhere near our dream - those programmes are awful, boring and there is no way I would be part of one

I left that email in my inbox for ages before posting it, I was reluctant to post it.

You would be surprised at how many of these things we get, most of them I ignore. We even got asked if we wanted to go on American Wife swap I mailed them back to say that I don't fly and I live in England but if they are happy to pay for my fare for the boat then I would consider it. (knowing that they wouldn't) strangely no one got back to me
