Help! Daft girlie crisis!

Post: # 92123Post hamster »

Okay, I had it on good authority that avocado oil is supposed to be good for your hair. So, having given up my nasty shampoo and conditioner in favour of a nice, handmade (not by me!) shampoo bar, I then decided to condition with aforementioned avocado oil.

The only slight problem is that it's now about 24 hours later, I've rinsed and washed my hair about four times (probably totally negating any positive benefit to the environment from my using natural plant oil instead of commercial conditioner) and it still looks... well, it looks like someone's combed loads of oil through my hair... or like I haven't washed my hair for a fortnight... like it's kind of plastered to my head.... Eurgh....

Which wouldn't normally bother me, except tonight I have to go into London and have dinner in a swanky restaurant with the bf's swanky public school friends, and I don't want to go looking like I don't wash! Does anyone else condition with oils? How do you get it out? Does anyone have any tips at all, for either rectifying or disguising it, other than just continuing to stand under the shower at periodic intervals and deplete our natural gas reserves still further?

I know I shouldn't be so shallow, but....

(And, yes, I can see the funny side....   )

I am no expert, but I would try vinegar, doing a quite google it should do the trick and leave your hair nice and shiney.

Sometimes I feel like I'm moving towards a beauty regime based entirely on salad dressing.

Thank you, possum, I shall try that later. Any particular type of vinegar?

I didn't google that many pages as my connection is so slow, but it seems to be any white vinegar, and you dilute it with water, you may need a slightly stronger solution than usual.

Having looked it up, I think I might give it a go, it sounds really good for the hair and mine needs all the help it can get.

Right, I tried a vinegar rinse (steered clear of the mustard and garlic, however) and my hair feels different from before, and I'll let you know if it's less greasy when it's dry.

Washing up liquid.
Its designed to remove grease and oil from your pans, so it will remove grease and oil from your har.

You might want to give it a good condition afterwards though!

And...i realise this is about 3 days late...

What did you do with the avocado oil?

Next time... put it into a spray bottle and spray on when your hair is damp and warm. Only one spray!! Then massage it through completely and it should be ok. I discovered that the spray method was a lot easier when i kept havin the same problem after using jojoba oil!

To condition: jojoba, Avocado and coconut are the way to go!

have a look on www.longhaircommunity.com for Snowys Moisture Treatment. It does work wonders, and there are also a number of different ways to condition/clean your hair on there too!

for hair that's full of oil or "products" wash it with soap - strips anything out and softens. You may want to wash normally and condition another day tho.

If you have oil in your hair, the best thing to do is to put the shampoo on dry hair. The detergent can get to the oil undiluted. Then rinse out.

Well, sort of!

I gave it a vinegar rinse on Friday afternoon and it was better. I tied it back when I went out and nobody noticed. Then I left it over the weekend and gave it another vinegar rinse yesterday morning. It's now almost normal again, but feels a little heavy and greasy. Eurch.

Fee, I used what I thought was a small amount of avocado oil on wet hair, combed it through, wrapped hair in a towel all afternoon then tried to rinse it out. I'd heard of people doing similar things with hemp seed oil, so I thought it might work.

another tip is cornflour, but I've not tested it so I can't say whether it will actually work. you need to sprinkle in and comb out bit by bit, then wash as normal...

Cornflour? Interesting.

However, I'm not going to try any more crazy experiments on my hair for a while!!
