someone with car knowledge please

Post: # 90117Post kiwirach »

i realise this isnt quite an ish subject but i need some opinions please.....

i drive a 1993 or 4 volvo 460. it was given to me as a 40th present but is turning into a money pit!. it failed its MOT twice in Dec/Jan...the second time the garage said it failed cos the handbrake had seized. they replaces the seized parts and the MOT was passed.
now 2 months later i've noticed the handbrake isnt holding on slopes or for hillstarts....should this be happening so soon, or is it 2 different components of the handbrake?.

i just want to know how cross to be when i contact the garage, cos i feel like i'm being taken for a ride!.

i'd appreciate any advice, thanks.

My guess is they put in a new handbrake cable and it has stretched, as they tend to do. It probably just needs adjusting.

the thingummy for tightenning the handbreak could be anywehere... but it might pay to try and take your centre console apart to see if there's a knob behind it, facing the back seat.

btw big up for volvo drivers ;)
