Happily surprised

Post: # 85299Post mrsflibble »

I did a clean out of our fish tank last night...........

our loaches have been breeding.

oh well, shows they're happy. neither me nor james want to keep many of the babies- Kuhli loaches are a social fish though so we may keep a few, if they survive. we are leaving them to their own devices and will keep track of their progress by how many little wormy fish we see scuttling about.

Pardon my ignorance but what is a loach?

it;'s a member of the catfish family, and we have kuhli (coolie) loaches which look like snakes. with whiskers. so like snakes in fact that sophie has named them "Ssss", "More Sssss" and "'Nake" (she can't get the "s" sound of snake)

they are incredibly good at hiding and it's fun to sit in the dark with a torch and play find the loach.

this is one of the bigger (female) ones.

Aww, baby fishes. I remember in my mum's pond, we had some new additions - my mother thought the "parents" were only babies themselves as they were small when we bought them not long before that.
I miss the pond now they've moved (8+ years ago).

Are they coldwater or tropical?

I've got a golden Weather Loach in my big tank. Its gorgeous!! I'm looking for things that aren't flat sided to go in my smaller tank. Its got a Chinese Algea Eater in it at the moment, and it like to stick to goldfish because of their flat sides...

Bugger. They're really pretty!!

Having said that, i did go out Sunday and get 2 goldfish for the big tank, and 3 White cloud minnows, and 3 American Flag Fish for Evil Fish's tank.

Its not eaten the little fish yet - i did promise it that if it ate any of them, i'd flush it though...
