The rules of attraction (warning: Mini-rant!)

Post: # 87586Post the.fee.fairy »

Why oh Why oh Why is it so difficult to find good looking, nice men who don't look as if you've grown another head when you say that you want to have chickens, and that you spend your sunday digging over the vegetable patch?

If anyone knows where such a creature might be hiding, send him my way...

I've had this conversation at work, and was told 'its because men want to think of you as a lovely clean, attractive female, not a mudcaked garden gnome!'.

I like being a mud-caked garden gnome...

I KNOW where a lovely, tall good looking gorgeous man who loves chicken (owns them!) and growing veg (does that!) and is generally perfect in ever way lies..... but he's MINE!!! mwah!!!

sorry!!!

although the downside is I do have to listen to rants about "that damned solar panel on the boat isn't working properly again, rats chewing everything and I wont get hot water for four hours... " and... I remember two of his chickens are called Nugget and Kiev....

on the bright side... atleast it proves they exist these mythical men!

Ahh Niki, you've got to take the rough with the smooth

If it is of any consolation, a friend of mine can't find a man at all... and she's not even into keeping chickens, or mud caked knomes... when she does find a dude, it seems to be about 3 weeks before they decide that they don't want a relationship

Have you tried finding your local young farmers group?... they are quite busy around this area, might be worth a bash.

Well, Fee, I'm coming!

But, alas, I'm taken too!

(apart from that me being old and ugly would be somewhat of a limiter too  )

Sorry!

Do you like older men Fee? I think you might have more luck if you start to look at 40+ year olds!

Certainly my 40+ is turning into a promising isher... it might be best to get them hooked before you mention the chickens.. I think it's the commitment more than anything esle that would put them off!

PS if a man still needs to think of his woman and a clean pretty homely 'item' is he really worth it? It's all well and good being willing to stay at home etc but being expected to is a different matter!

Aww, sorry Fee. ((((hug))))

I think you're jealous because your sister has one. But I'm sure there are some out there (they probably just live in straw bale houses in the woods, which is why you don't meet them so often), and if you meet someone you like who isn't particularly into 'ish' things, then if they do like you they will accept you as a 'mud-caked garden gnome', and might even come to realise that it is in fact far more fun living with a mud-caked garden gnome anyway. (I personally believe it is perfectly possible to be both a mud-caked garden gnome and a lovely, clean, attractive female, depending on what the occasion calls for, but that's by the by.)

If it's any consolation, when I met my bf, he was firmly in the 'a tomato's just a tomato, let's buy the cheapest ones at T*sco and spend the difference on going out, organic's a big fat con, blah, blah, blah...' camp and now he has started brewing his own beer, happily washes mud off vegetables and has even expressed (spontaneously, with no prompting from me whatsoever!) a desire to keep pigs. (For some reason, he still has a peculiar mental block about digging anything, though....)
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

For the same reason it's hard to find a woman who's prepared to muck out animals and spend Sunday digging over the veg patch?!

Seriously though, I think it's just a question of putting yourself in the right places where you might meet a prospective partner who's into the same things as you.

A couple of places I noticed that were good for their copping off potential:-
Your local Horticultural college course (but not the RHS courses; they seemed to be full of bored housewives... hmmm... *Books onto next RHS course*...).
And your local BTCV volunteer work group.

And don't forget t'internet!
(I met my current partner on a forum much like this one!)

Let's face it, the Mud-Caked Garden Gnome Posse (that would be us :flower: ) are spread rather thinly across the globe as it is - never mind those who are "single and looking"!

And there are far more women in the posse than men.

That is the biggest problem. The lack of male interest!!

Not in me..in the whole mud caked garden gnome!

I am perfectly capable of being clean and tidy occasionally...i have to be at work, but then, at the weekends there's a whole garden out there needing attention.

Haha, and Nik and i generally have different tastes in men...

It took me two years to condition the dh to turn lights off, but he is more into certain aspects of this "green" thang than I am (the gizmos side suprise suprise - he knows where the allotment is... )

I think some men would be charmed by the fact you have a garden and you are into eco-schtuff. I have to say, I think is easier to be beating off suitors with composted sticks when you are not looking, than when you are - I don't know why this should be.

PLUS, I think any inherent gnome-ness will shine (or glimmer?) through, so when that certain gnomaniac pitches his fishing rod next to yours, he will just know, and so will you
