And here's another useful site - why not to travel by (cheap) flight:

www.planestupid.com

And to make all that a bit easier:

Maybe you could suggest that to your mum and dad then? Doesn't matter who flies - it's still bad for the environment...

no roof..every time it rains the wet patch on the toilet gets larger and the rot is setting in as the condensation gets worse so nothing new

yowch.

I'm sorry to say this but polycell mould killer, although really harmful to wildlife has kept the massive growths off my office window for the last month so it must be doing something.

Hey tea, where do you live (approx) no details on your profile. Where would you be starting the journey?

Condor Ferries? They go from Weymouth (and maybe other places) to Jersey and St Malo. There must be some inter-island ferries to get to Alderney - or a rowing boat or something.

I've been looking and came up with skyscanner's search from gatwick to jersey.

http://www.skyscanner.net/gbp/flights/l ... &infants=1&

flying 9/4/08 return 2 weeks later £261.65 total

As you change the dates the cost changes.

I was also looking at driving to Folkestone, crossing to calais on the chunnel then driving down to cherbourg - theoretical journey time 6 - 7 hours - then there's the ferry on top. Do-able. Best deals on chunnel are travelling very early in the morning. Maybe break up the jouney with an overnight stay?

It's very difficult when loved ones live far away. Have you seen Seize the Day's video http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gNO7F5m-7pQ

OH went to Florida to see his brother before the brother died a couple of years back. He knew it would be the last time he would see him and it was a stretch, money wise. We all know by now that flying is not desirable but sometimes it's the only option unless you harden your heart not to see friends and relatives any more and I don't know any one that hard/strong resolve.

I'll stop rambling now. Something to think about anyway.
