I think the dial moved from 1 to 2 in the mid eighties, except John Peel of course!
Radio 3, 4 or classic fm nowadays when I'm cooking or pottering in the greenhouses.

mainly rad4 but 1, 2 and 3 get used too and occasionally the local ones

Whaddya mean? I am still cool! Although I don't listen to radio 1 unless my children force me to. I like radio 2, 4, 7 and Planet Rock...

hmmmm.....I fondly recall Radio Caroline, Radio London (pirate stations), and somewhat less fondly, Radio Luxembourg on 208 - it faded dreadfully, and featured adverts for this supposedly sure fire "pools system" the guys name was Horace Bachelor, and they spelt out the town in which it was situated......(doubtless so it was intelligible over the fading) K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M, Bristol...................

No, I have never been cool either, I now listen to radio 4 on the way home from work (although I still listen to radio 1 on the way, I dont like the bloke in the afternoon, I think he is sexist)
Anyway, despite how much I tried I have never been cool, so now I am resigned to the fact that I am a geek, althouth not one of the intelligent ones, just one of the ones who wears clothes cos they are warm and comfy, and likes to sit in a quiet pub rather than go to a club because I like to be able to talk to my friends. My siblings all think I am sad!

- Like many people, I mostly listen to Radios 4 and 2, but once in a while, thoroughly sickened by an overdose of Melvyn Bragge, the matronising crew of "gynaecology today, every day, and repeated umpteen times" (the totally insufferable and divisive "Woman's Hour"), and finished off by "political correctness brainwashing for the day" (The Archers) - it is refreshing to have a good swear, and hit the "rock" button

I used to listen to radio Scotland - but found there was too much shallow stuff on... And I must admit, I'm a really lazy person: once my radio is set on a station, it stays there.

I never was a "cool" teen. for flibble's sake I looked like this for my late teens and early 20s:

and before that I had straggly non descript hair, greasy (but non spotty) skin, train track braces on both top and bottom and owl-like glasses. And I was chubbier han I am now. is it any wonder I wasn't accepted by the majority of teen society?!

I don't feel that out of touch to be honest, I'm lucky that my brothers are 14, 12 and my sister is 10 so they're keeping me well versed in "what's cool" and what isn't. lolz roflcopter i can haz cheezburger and all that jazz.

but I have to say, the first time I realised I'd grown up was when an assistant in Savers called me madam. and to me she only looked about 12!

I was back visiting family in January and met up with some friends in a trendy bar in Camden one evening. Now if I had a pint for every time that someone commented on my country knits and rustic attire I'd have spent the night under the table. The worrying thing is that I changed into what I thought was passable street gear before I went out.

[The Riff-Raff Element]

I would listen to radio's 1 to 4 if I could but I can't. I know that one can on this new fangled interweb thingy, but every time I get it working I find something so much more potentially interesting.

Tonight I found a radio station in Windhoek, last night it was one in Okinawa. Fantastic. I have little idea what anyone is saying but where DJs are concerned I am not sure it really matters.

What I would really like though is some way of getting the impression of distance. When I were a boy in Norfolk (about 1982) I used to listen to Laser 558 and Caroline and sometimes Dutch stations on medium wave. And as the night cooled down something my father refered to as "heavy layer effect" happened that made all kinds of interesting echos and odd variations in signal strength and somehow conveyed just how far away they were.

As a hormone-enriched spotty adolescent I found this all very evocative as I sat and wondered how I would ever get up the courage to ask **** ********* out. I never did, alas.

But here I am listening to "DJ Flip" 5000 odd miles to the south of me and he might as well be in the next room. Is there a clever little widget I could get for the computer that could simulate the old romance of medium wave???
