Harsh rules for a web forum

Post: # 85001Post Andy Hamilton »

A friend of mine is getting married in South Korea next year and I have been looking into ways of getting there without flying. - will start another thread for this. During my search I found that the trans siberian express can go through North Korea. This made me do a little more research on this the worlds most secretive country. I found the web forum for the country and thought that some of the rules were interesting, far too many to post them all here so just for a few highlights.
1. Access to the Forum

Access to post on the forum may only be given to KFA members. Access to reading post is unlimited, and can be viewed without becoming a KFA member. Access is subject to our Acceptable Security Policy as stated in KFA document KFA93P01 - "Rules for Posting on the KFA Forum". Non-members may still have their message posted to the forum by sending an e-mail to korea@korea-dpr.com, as it may included if it is found to be valuable.

2.1.1 Posting anti-DPRK propaganda or content that is disrespectful against the DPRK, its people, government and leadership is not allowed.

2.1.2 Posting copies of articles from external newssites that are not officially supported by the DPRK, or which contains articles that contain anti-DPRK propaganda, or content that is disrespectful against the DPRK, its people, government and leadership is not allowed.

2.1.99 These rules may be changed or updated any time.

When you look at this web site, our server makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes – the user's server address, the user's top level domain name (for example .com, .org .net and so forth), the date and time of visit to the site, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited, and the type of browser used. No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of a security or other investigation, we may inspect the logs or we may have a law enforcement agency inspect the logs.
I looked around the forum at some of the posts which are funny at first, that is until you think of the implications to the people of North Korea.

Here is a talk about using mobile phones in North Korea -
Mobile/Cell phones are not allowed because they are capable of communicating with the Americans and the Puppets in South Korea, it would be a massive threat to security if a foreigner was to contact the imperialists directly from DPRK
they go onto say
Mobile phones aren't actually needed as you can access payphones and fax machines at several locations in DPRK
Hmm, think I will give DPRK a miss.

I was going to make that point myself, although we are a million miles away from ever becoming similar to NK, the fact that you can be locked up without trial or bugged/have your phone tapped is not the right way to be heading.

I went there once. It was during the era when the UN were trying to pursaude the North Koreans to give up nuclear power in return for suppying fueloil for power generation. We went to look at the feasability of importing the oil from the Russian Far East.

It is a deeply, deeply depressing place. Dirty, devoid of any sign of wildlife (it had all been eaten - this was just after the famine in NK that starved an as yet undetermined number of people to death) and everywhere pictures of the barking-mad "Dear Leader."

Mind you, as has already been said, it does focus the mind on what freedoms we currently enjoy and should seek to defend.

I anyone does go, be sure to take some of those little sachets of tomato ketchup with you. Not the most environmentally friendly form of packaging I realise, but discreet and essential for making what food there is in the country edible...

That's the eldest. Adeline, aged 8. She told me that she thought Clifford the colorado beetle was "horrid" so I agreed to rotate around pictures of her and her sisters instead.

My cousin's son/daughter (can't actually remember which), got married in a while ago. Their wedding was available for viewing over the Internet (perhaps even live) - not the same thing watching via webcam as being there in person, but ...
Did I hear that one airline has already flown using bio-fuels? Dare I mention carbon-offsetting (whatever that is...)... Difficult one - long journey. A while ago, there was someone from Wales that went to a wedding in NZ - they went mainly by ship (didn't want to fly, environmental reasons), but it took ages...
