I've never managed to find it anywhere, but a friend used to get it from the baker's near his house. If you have a proper old-fashioned baker's near you, they might be willing to let you have some.

If not, some bread-making books tell you how to substitute dried for fresh and how to adapt recipes. Maybe worth looking in your library??
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

Hasn't the price of grain increased... thus animal feed will be more expensive... thus eggs/milk/meat etc will all be more expensive to produce.

If anyone wants to have a go at milling their own flour, Brow Farm has an online shop that sells milling wheat, milling rye and milling buckwheat (5, 10 and 20kg bags, free delivery).

Schnitzer mills are one of the best, but are pricey. I'm trying to put aside a little money here and there to get their handmill (five minutes work with the crank makes about half a cup of flour), but there are electric ones, too.

Good link - but where is their farm? I'm hoping to find a Scottish supplier for grain this year...

They're Lancastrians and have had a farm for 70 years or so.

I've yet to find a Scottish equivalent, or one that supplies Scottish milled flours in bulk (20-40kg). I've even tried to talk nearby farmers into supplying me with whole barley and oats, some for making flour, some for beer, and the rest for animal feed. But it's far too inconvenient to supply someone small like me with the 10 tonnes of grains I need.

We use 6-8kg of flours (wholemeal wheat, rye, unbleached white wheat, barley) and oat meals a week, so I'd like to be able to buy in a larger amount than 1.5, 2 or 2.5kg bags. Pease-meal would also be useful.
