For one night only!

Post: # 3858Post Wombat »

Calling all self sufficientishers!

I will be having Christmas in Europe this year with my Son-in-law's family and intend to call into London on the way home in early January, to meet Mr Hamilton and shake the hand of the man who co-developed this site.

I was thinking that it would be good if I could also meet some of you ladies and gentlemen of the self sufficentish community while I am there. My idea is that someone who knows a good pub nominates it as a meeting place and we all turn up for a night of fun and frolic.

I have to confirm the dates but I think it will be a Wed, Thurs & Friday - so maybe the Friday night would be the go.

We still have some time to organise things so what do you reckon..........is it a goer?

That would be great. Somewhere round south / south east / central London would work for me.

South London sounds like a better place for me too as I can stay with family. I thought perhaps this place http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/info_pubbar_4463.html - it is a 100% organic pub and an old victorian building too to it is more likely to look like a proper pub rather than a chain bar. It called the Crown organic pub, anyone been there?

It Victoria park is that near the station? I thought it would be easier for anyone comming by public transport to meet near a mainline station and the coach station.

Unfortunately that's more Eastend rather than South. Nowhere near Victoria Station. This site gives more info about the pub and says the nearest tubes are Bethnal Green, Stepney Green and Mile End.

Here's a map that gives its location - zoom out to see where it is in relation to the rest of London.

Whoa, that does seem a bit too far out. Back to the drawing board then.

What date? 5 January? Thursdays tend not to be good for me but I might be able to make it. For me, end of the afternoon - early evening would be better than mid-late evening.

Once we get a date and time confirmed, we can then think about a venue that will suit the people available.

Did anything get arranged about this? I'm guessing by his absence here that Nev may have left for Europe already - is it too late to sort something out?

I don't know London well, but I'm wondering if we might be able to arrange 'SS-ish does London Eye' or something like that (though tickets may be like hen's teeth at this time of year). Is Nev still contactable about it? If he is, I'd be up for it; Andy? Wulf? Shiney? Anybody?
