Ah yes, of course! No, I haven't seen any results yet, either.

I’m still here!
I'm working on putting the results together but have had some problems to contend with over the last week (a personal issue  and a technical one in terms of a dead cable modem :angryfire: ).
I will try and get them online by Thursday night, failing that Friday.

It's kind of what was expected isn't it! Well done Tomr for taking the time to do this survey.

Hmm! Interesting that none of us use (or can use) public transport for shopping - or, indeed, home delivery. Several of my neighbours get a T***o delivery on a regular basis. I'd love to use public transport, or walk or cycle; but of public transport there is none, and I'm a bit far (and too up and down!) for leg power... OK, and I'm not fit enough. When I was young, I used to cycle 35km to the pub. (Complete with hills and a few pints inside on the way back. )

What I really think would be a great idea in a place like this (4-5 miles from the nearest village shop), is getting together with your neighbours for a "communal" shopping run once a week. Even if only two neighbours could get together and share the car, that would help. But I know that none of my neighbours are willing to lose that much of their independence...

I would use public transport for my shopping, but if i have to go and do a big shop, its a pain getting onto the bus with all the stuff. i usually get dropped off as mum or dad is going somewhere, adn then picked up on the way back.

Yeah, the best we can do (especially living as far out as I do) is not going unnecessarily; combining trips, where possible.

That's what we do. Go to big supermarket every 10 days or so; sometimes buy in between things when we need to go to the village to post a letter/go to the pharmacy or something like that.

Interesting, too, that it seems butchers are furthest away from folk who live in urban situations... if I'm reading that right!

And greengrocers furthest away from rural areas! Makes sense, though, doesn't it: in rural areas people are more likely to grow their own, or buy from farmshops, or go to pick your own etc. I really had to think hard to remember where my nearest greengrocer is - miles and miles away. But there are some small farmshops - sometimes only a covered stall at the roadside, with an honesty box; and quite a few of them seasonal.

Thanks, Tomr for putting this together. I must admit that since I completed this survey I have found a closer butcher. The fact remains though that I can only get to him on a Saturday and most Saturdays I am busy.

For the next few weeks though I am taking Mondays off work to use up my holidays so I can get to some real shops.

I try to do most of my shopping at the local co-op and either walk or stop on my way home from somewhere so I am not making an extra journey. About once a month I go to Asda to get the bits I can't buy at Co-op and again, I go on my way home from somewhere so that I am not using unecessary fuel.

Cheers
Zoe
