101 Things That Go Well With Herbs And Spices

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

101 Things That Go Well With Herbs And Spices

Post: # 50706Post Muddypause »

One of the many gaps in my education is about herbs and spices. So, 101 things that go well with herbs and spices, please. Keep it simple - not after recipies, just stuff like:

1) Basil goes well with tomatoes
2) Sage and onion is good
3) Marjoram and oregano for a better pizza
Stew

Ignorance is essential

4) Coriander and garlic are good in/on breads
5) Chives complement cheese
6) Nasturtiums are handy to add to a salad (leaves, flowers and seed pods)
7) Rosemary and mint both go well with lamb dishes and/or Greek dishes

ok then

31. Parsley can help nutralise the smell of garlic. So they sort of go together.
32. Marojaram - boiled spuds
33. Lavender flowers - shortbread.
34. Leek and sage. (as you would expect, goes with onions will go with leeks.)
35. Chervil - can use like fennel or parsley. So goes with fish and can be interesting in soups.
36. Spinach - sorrel
37. Sage - on cheese on toast

In a non-cooking Manner:

Lavender and lemongrass creates a beautifully relaxing citrussy smell, justdon't overdo it on the lemongrass.
Sage is great for burning when its dried, and smells great too.

Here is the recipe on the bottom of this page.

46. Cabbage and cumin seeds
47. mustard seed, cardamom pods, bay leaf, cumin powder and coriander with rice. - Cook them all up in a pan with some onion and grated carrot . Put in some rice and stock. Leave on the heat until the rice is cooked. - nice quick meal there.
