I usually use all the trimmings from my veggies and pea and bean pods etc to make large quantities of vegetable stock. This means that I have equally large quantities of cooked veggie trimmings that i don't put in the compost bin....I'm told not to put anything cooked in the compost because I think it will attract vermin...surely rats are just as likely to eat cooked pea pods as raw ones ...but I don't want to chance it in case it will spoil my compost ......what does everyone else do...perhaps you don't make stock like this ...but then it's the way my mother did it
I have always put our dinner sraps in the compost (with three small children, you tend to get a lot!) with no problem. I think it's more meat scraps (cooked or raw) you need to avoid.
Yeah, I put bread crusts in and egg boxes all mashed up and leftovers, but no meaty things. We do get the most amazing amount of worms in there, 1000's of them.
