1. The Herb troughs.
They sit outside the kitchen window, under a lean-to type covering affair.
There's (from the left) Mint, Mint, Sage. There's a couple of different varieties in each trough.
2. The Hanging Baskets
I bought these from a boot sale for 50p each. They're lined with puppy training pads - like flat nappy type things that are supposed to help with toilet training a puppy. Never worked for us, but they soak up moisture, so should help in the basket. I've got 2 with strawberries in, and one with Basil and Parsley in.
3. The Veg Patch
This is where i attempt to grow edible things! This year, so far i've planted the pepper plants (i'm going to cover them with polytunnel cloches overnight and towards autumn), and some sprouted things. To go in, i've got some onion sets and some spring onions.
4. The Greenhouse
Where most of my growing starts. At the moment, i've got some summer squash and some pumpkins coming up. No butternuts yet (which is a shame cos they're my favourite!!). Don't know if they will come up. I've also got some chillis and some sweet peas sprouting. Got a load of other stuff that i sowed last night.
5. The Pond
This is the pond made with a baby bath, as instructed by Andy in his great article!! I always wanted a pond, but we never had room for a decent sized one. Then i saw the article on the babybath pond, went to a boot sale and got a baby bath....and here it is!
There are some tadpoles in there, and some old land-drainage pipe bits for the frogs to climb about on when they get big enough. I was wondering about a goldfish or two, but i don't think its deep enough, or big enough. It's also got the contents of my goldfish's last tank in it. I wanted to help the pond algae colonise quickly for the tadpoles, so when Sharkie (the goldfish) got a new tank, i chucked the contents of the old one in the pond, stones and all!
6. The Centrepiece
My mum wanted a 'pretty' garden rather than a functional one, so i compromised and cut this bit for her. There was a path running down the middle of the garden, but i get rid of it! I cut this bed and Dad put the chimenea in the middle (we've never been able to get the thing to work right!!). It's got Jasmine coming out of th front, and white lavender in the top. Hopefully, as long as they come up, there's sunflowers (russian giant and teddy bear), virginian stock, candytuft, lavender and nasturtiums to come up round it. But they've been mixed and thrown, so i don't know.
7. The Cutting Bed
I wanted somewhere to grow flowers to cut for indoors - so the cutting bed was born. It's got sunflowers, a rose bush, carnations, campanulas (seeds of italy seeds...don't know whqt the english term is!!), candy tuft, stock and clematis planted in it. Again, its all a bit of a fingers crossed situation!
