Chilli Competition!

Post: # 47413Post the.fee.fairy »

This was mentioned a few months ago.
There are some chilli seeds floating about for 'Peter peppers', the Adult chilli.

There were also talks of a competition measuring length and girth.

Are people wtill up for the competition?

Chilli Monster said that she was going to start growing hers in february, so i thought i'd see how many competitors we have

Bdurrr... why bother? We grow the Dorset Naga down 'ere... hold on with both hands!

Sorry, can't offer seeds - Michael Michaud grows them commercially, but he's trying to get growers' rights established before he starts selling the seed (hopefully later this month). His biggest problem is finding any real culinary uses for the damned things, since they're quite possibly the hottest chilli in the world (recently tested at 1.6 million scoville units)! Just touching them renders your fingers radioactive, and I'm not going near them. Period!

these were the peppers that resemble a certain part of the male anatomy...that's where the competitive element comes in!

Those chillis sound lethal! Keep us updated on him getting rights and stuff, they sound interesting.

I've got some seeds, don't know how many, i'll have a rummage.

Umm..are we setting a date for the planting? or just going along as things grow?

I've never grown them before, but TCM gave me some pointers when she sent the seeds, so i'm going to go along with those plans!

Hi Fee Fairy

I'm back again.

Some time ago, TFF, Shirlz & Tensing and I entered into a competiton to grow the so-called "Penis Peppers". These chilies are also known as "peter pepper". Somewhere on this site is a reference to the "chilli willi" comp, but I've been a little distracted and haven't logged on for some time, so bear with me as I find my bearings.

I haven't planted my seeds yet - it's getting a bit late, but I shall be making a real effort to get my **** together before next weekend (16/17/18 Feb).

I believe that I have enough seeds for one more competitor to enter the fray.
First come, first served, blah, blah ...

Length, girth ... ? C'mon HW, do those Dorset Naga's have enough "poke"?

I'm planting mine possibly tomorrow in celled seed trays. So i'll be posting pics and stuff as it goes along (with rulers in place when the chillies grow).

Good luck guys!

Im surprised that youre all planting your chillis this early. I did mine about April last year and they still took a long time to get going with fruit happening later on in the year rather than earlier. Do the packets etc say to sow this time?

Apparently starting them early is the way to go - I was late with mine last year and they did fruit eventually but not soon enough and not with enough vigour.

I haven't planted mine yet though - will make a point of doing it by the weekend!!

When TCM sent me the seeds, she said that she was planting them in Feb, so i decided that seeing as she knows more than me, i'd do the same.

i've read since that chillies need a long growing season, so feb seems like a good time to me.

Best I get started then....

Next question - I froze my chillis from last year, if I defrost them could I still use the seeds to grow this years? I didnt blanch them or anything just literally threw them in the freezer.
