vitiligo

Post: # 4337Post Andy Hamilton »

I have just developed vitiligo on my hands and the doctor said that there was not much he could do for me, since found out this is not entirely true. I looked it up and found that is has been treated for the last 5000 years

Aparently there are a bunch of alternative treatments out there, anyone know of any?

Apparently, one treatment for vitiligo includes the use of drugs containing psoralens, which are chemicals that react with ultraviolet light to cause darkening of the skin.

Psoralens are found naturally in parsnip, celery, limes, lemons, figs and bergamot (cup of Earl Grey anyone?) so it might be worth including these in your diet. Whether it will have any noticeable effect or not is debatable, but it won't do you any damage to eat them anyway..... :bom:

Its not bad nev mate, its just spots of white on my hands, no one has noticed unless I point it out. It could spread is my only real concern. It is what micheal jackson was suposed to have when he changed colour.

Sunpuppy - been getting through loads of lemons at the moment so that has probally helped keep it a bay. Will be easy to start eating parsnips too and looks like my two cups of a tea a day will have to change to earl grey, thanks for the advice  Will see if it makes much of a difference.

Hi Andy,

I have whatever you have on your hands on my finger tips. When I get a sun tan i have white finger tips. Looks a bit strange, but I have never thought of even curing it.

If you find anything natch, let me know. I am not overly worried about it apart it looks like I have been standing my fingers in bleach during the Summer.

It effects 1-100 and as there is almost 200 members I guess thats us two then

Been trying the food that sunpuppy suggests so far, not sure if there is much of a difference but would not expect it overnight. Been looking at the net and it appears that we could get suntan lotion on the NHS!

I have white spots on my legs but they are tiny - so when I get a sun tan it looks like white freckles! But no-one much looks close up at my legs anyway so it doesn't matter!!!

I expect by the time you've been to the doctors, got your presciption and paid £6.50 for your suncream, it would be cheaper to buy it at the supermarket or chemist! (unless of course they give you it freeeeeeee ~ but unlikely)

I eat loads of parsnips, lemons and celery but haven't noticed my fingers getting any browner in the Summer. I am sure we'll live, perhaps at the end of the Summer we can compare white patches.
