Does anyone know where I can get a really cheap loom from?

I want to turn my old plastic carrier bags into rag rugs!

Yeah, but the cheapest full-size one is currently at £80.00 which is way beyond my budget!

Hmmmm,

for anything of useable size, that is cheap! Keep a look out in junk or antique shops. I paid $50 for mine in an antique shop but it is only about a foot wide.

You could make one, but it is a fair bit of work and you would need to get the timber second hand (at least) to make it worthwhile. If you want to have a go, PM me you address and I will copy some plans that I have and send them over!

Having thought about it for a bit, I've decided to have a go at making a peg loom, I found a site that has instructions on it: http://www.stewardwood.org/ on the DIY Guides bit.

It looks fairly simple, only using a length of timber and some dowelling, and as I only want to make some basic rag rugs with my carrier bags, I though i would give it a shot.

Thanks for the offer of the plans though - maybe if I get really enthusiastic about it and take it up as a hobby, I'll have a go at making a proper loom....

BTW: The Stewardwood website is a mine of knowledge for all sorts of things, including how to make a nukiller (sic) bomb! (Although this has definitely been done with tongue firmly in cheek!)
