Just been on the phone to FOE and they gave me a press release for our weekender coming up. We shall see if any journalist want to run a story. I have sent it off to a few.

Andy and Dave Hamilton from selfsufficientish Friends of the Earth will today 10th August be cycling the 100 mile route from Bristol to Ilfracombe . The ride and subsequent weekend activities are part of a national day of action to promote ‘The Big Ask’, a Friends of the Earth campaign that is calling on the UK Government to take action to combat climate change.
Though their highly successful website selfsufficientish.com they have organised a weekend of activities to raise funds for Friends of the Earth. They have challenged the members of other websites’ forums including downsizer.net, Acountrylife.com and the River cottage and It’s not Easy being Green sites to a game of rounders to be held when they arrive by bike to Ilfracombe in Devon some 100 miles from Bristol. They hope that by showing that you can have an almost carbon free holiday that it will demonstrate that it can be done and help raise awareness for the big ask campaign.
The Big Ask campaign is calling for a new climate change law that will commit the Government to cutting emissions of carbon dioxide – the main greenhouse gas - by three per cent per year.
The campaign is calling on local people to write to their local MP in the areas that they pass throughto ask him or her to put pressure on the Government to introduce a climate bill in the next Queens speech. Individuals can write to their MP at www.thebigask.com. The campaign has already received the support of over 60,000 people across the country and well over half of MPs.
Andy Hamilton from selfsufficientish.com based in Bristol - Friends of the Earth said:
“The good news is that we have the solutions to climate change at our finger tips - a climate change law will create the environment where these solutions will flourish. That’s why we need local people to write to their local MP to urge him or her to put pressure on the Government to introduce a climate change law. If enough people support The Big Ask the Government will have to take action.â€Â
