Who's pinched the spam?

It's sort of odd to pop in and find that there's a shortage of spam to report.

Something gone wrong with the forum - aren't we worth spam anymore?

It's all to do with these super efficient new young Mods, Flo.

Or to be brutally honest, it's the way new members now have to be "vetted" that has stopped spammers from being able to join unannounced and immediately spam everywhere.

Ah - our secret weapon

There was a time when newbies were approved automatically and the first thing we knew about whether or not they were spammers was when the spam suddenly appeared. More recently, newbies cannot post before being vetted and spammers are, most of the time, easy to spot and eliminate before they get anywhere near the forum.

It means spending a little time vetting as opposed to a lot of time cleaning up the mess.

Speaking of spam ... I had to laugh this morning about a bona fide advert here for dental implants (no, seriously). They're advertised by a woman with a beautiful smile but no clothes.

Obviously, the treatment is so expensive that the poor girl simply had no money left over to buy a new T-shirt.

Nippier down here than it has been lately, just on 10 c at 7 o'clock, down from the 15 c or so of recent nights.
