Pumpkin Patch
My helper prepared three good sized plots for pumpkins this year this morning with plenty of well rotted manure and compost. I just hope it's not too late to get a reasonable sized pumpkin for Halloween. I have just put 5 seeds o Atlantic Giant in the propagator. I really need to beat the men this year and one of them has just built a pumpkin house out of old double glazing and all I've got is one of these 6 ft square instant poly green houses , I hope it's big enough. Is it worth trying to use the vertical space too as I know the plants can be very big.

Re: Pumpkin Patch
Hope you have nice warm weather. My pumpkins are, what is the word, languishing...? Just hanging in there until hopefully the temps go up. Preferably before winter kicks in again, if that is not too much to ask.

Can you protect them with a cloch?

Or even a plastic water bottle

Feed and water those pumpkin plants. Can't let my helper down . He needs some decent size pumpkins for carving in October.

Re: Pumpkin Patch
My babies are not growing very well at all this year even my courgette plants are struggling.. Just picked my first courgette yesterday , my yellow plant has 3 not so great courgettes on. Is it just me or is everybody else struggling with their cubits this year. I might be brave and stick a few cubit seeds in direct in the hope we have a late summer.

Re: Pumpkin Patch
Great news big max has flowers and the plant looks very healthy. Got some homemade comfrey and chicken manure liquid feed ready. Come on pumpkins see what you can do after a very late start . Can't let my hard working helper down. A big pumpkin is his reward for the help he gives me through out the season.

Re: Pumpkin Patch
Allotment with helper today.
I will take my new pumpkin house down today and pop it over big max.
With that and a lot of feeding I am still living in hope of a decent size pumpkin.
Well bacon butty and allot here I come.
I better take plenty of liquid with me . It's going to be a hot one!

Re: Pumpkin Patch
Five weeks to go to the pumpkin show, it's holding its own at the moment with the other pumpkins on the site. The last few weeks are going to be critical. I will keep pampering it and hope for the best. Roll on 20 th oct, the last few weeks are going to kill me. Weather looks ok for the next ten days , reasonable temps, and a mixture of sunshine and showers. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Pumpkin Patch
This has been my first year of successfully growing pumpkins on the allotment and I've managed to harvest several 14 - 17lb small pumpkins already but the ones left on the plants are growing well indeed . I wish you every success for the pumpkin show.
