weight loss 2013
weight loss 2013
I'll start it off again this year but not sure if it's had it's sell by date now.
I know I didn't lose anything in the last year but that just means weight loss 2013 is more needed now for me.
On the 1st I was 296 pounds or 212st 2 or 134.6 kg
We get weighed on a Saturday so toay I've lost 0.2 pounds over 4 days.
If anyone wants to join in then fine. Open to all again.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Re: weight loss 2013
I've been doing this 5:2 diet thing since late last year - five days per week you eat normally, two non-consecutive days you fast, eating only 500 calories, which I do as a single evening meal. I wanted to lose 8kg (so abot 18lb) which I have done, but I'm continuing for a little longer to get right in the middle of my BMI range and keep my doctor quiet. There's apparently some worthwhile health advantages associated with the fasting component, particularly as regards diabetes and pre-diabetes.
There's a book out by a Dr Michael Mosley on Amazon at £5.99 which goes into the diet - it follows on from a Horizon program he made last year called Eat, Fast & Live Longer.

OK,Al,I'm up for this.I'm about 120kg,6'1'',my leg's completely knackered,so serious exercise, other than the pool is out,But I have just paid a year subs to the local pool,so I will get some exercise.
I've got Crohn's which complicates things a bit,but the last op I had for that,I couldn't drink for 5 weeks,and I lost 2 stone,so I've an idea on where to start.(miserable prospect though).
I'd like to get down to 14 stone, lighter than that, I look ill.
I've bared my soul a bit here,.....feel a bit naked!!.....I'm gonna do it anyhow, but it'd be more of a laugh done in company. BWs.

Re: weight loss 2013
I'v been eating too much chocolate and sweet stuff over the holidays and i'v put on weight again so i was wanting to start again. I made chocolate and wallnut cookies 2 days in a row and ate them all the day i made them and felt terrible about it had to really fight the urge to throw them up. So much butter and sugar, all that fat getting stuck inside me, clogging up by body, really unhealthy.
I'm trying to control myself today. Had 1/2 a boiled egg and a slice of whole wheat toast with ajvar ( preserve made from roasted red peppers, kind of like pesto, that you spread on bread ) oh and i had a couple of squares of chocolate that were left in the packet
What day is it today? Sunday?
Todays weight: 53kg, 8st 4lbs, 116lbs. Depending on what country you're in.
BMI: 21.9
Goal weight: 50kg
Goal BMI: 20
Shouldn't be too difficult. Right come on guys, we can do it, lets get pumped up, come on lets do it!!!!

Re: weight loss 2013
I'd quite like to be in on this too; but I'm not very good with the whole weighing thing - I'm naturally quite muscular, so I tend to find that when I'm getting more decent exercise I lose weight slower because I'm toning up and gaining muscle. I also don't view BMI in a very good light, I'm afraid. If I can just measure my progress on my fitness achievements, and how much my actual waist measurements are (that's the bit I struggle with the most, and usually a good indicator of how well or not well I'm doing), I'd love to join in. At the moment my waist is 29 inches. I'd like it down to 26. So I can buy a 22 inch waist-training corset, but that's another passion and another subject altogether!
I have given up drinking alcohol altogether for January (for Cancer Research UK's Dryathlon), and I want to knock it mostly on the head after that apart from maybe a few sherbets on the weekends. I have also signed myself up to run a 5K fun-run in July for Parkinson's UK, as my MIL was diagnosed last year. Believe me, I am NOT a lover of exercise (other than the outdoorsy walking and gardening type), and I'm certainly no jogger; and I could do with a group like this to kick me up the bottom when I start panicking that I can't do it!

Also I'm slightly fascinated by the waist training but I won't probe...

Re: weight loss 2013
Fast day today. Basically, 24 hours without solid food from dinner last night until this evening when I eat around 500/600 kcals (veg chilli today) and then nothing until breakfast. What I like most about this diet is that all the denial is concentrated into a short period and the rest of the time I can eat what I wish. Last night I had beef strew & dumplings washed down with half a bottle of red: this, I suspect, would not fit in with any plan that Weight Watchers might come up with.

And you do two fast days a week, do you?
I am finding this interesting. *rubs chin in 'interested' fashion*

Re: weight loss 2013
Indeed.
The idea is that your body mops up all the glucose it has available (in the blood, in the digestive tract and stored as glycogen) in about 12-16 hours and then switches more or less entirely to fat burning. The only parts that can run only on glucose (red blood cells and - in the first instance - the brain) consume glucose liberated from breaking down the fat reserves, and from the little bit of food in the evening, but you snap out of the fast before your body moves into making ketones to feed the brain and breaking down protein (ie muscle) to make glucose for the blood cells, so avoiding the undesirable side affects of long term fasts.
The first couple of times are a little uncomfortable, but then your insulin response starts to perk up and it's easy. The fear of being hungry is far worse than hunger, and once you are convinced that this is only a short term thing your body seems to adapt to this mode of eating. It is, after all, what we are designed for: three meals per day, every day, is a modern invention. There's loads of stuff on the interwebthingy about it.
