The last of the pristine romaine lettuce was juiced along with broccoli, purslane, parsley and basil. A total of eleven litre jars of juice was obtained. There was only about a large tablespoon of residue. All the produce was in perfect condition. Annotated pictures depict the process.

No need to point that out, I have a very healthy diet, more or less 80% of what I eat is what I grow and is in season, I bake my own bread, make my own pasta, cheese and yoghurt, I just don't see the point in juicing everything!

You can eat really healthfully without the need to juice or dehydrate all your food Durgan. Where's the joy and pleasure in that?

Food for joy and pleasure is way down on my list of enjoyments, assuming the essentials of life are available.Mind you I hope we are of the same mind that is, we are what we eat to a large degree.If you disagree, then my short justification of my position has no meaning for you.

Juicing is a simple, practical, quick, palatable,nutritionally sound method of preserving products for later use from the garden and area (purchased) when they are available. Juicing is suitable for small quantities by an individual. There is no sense in growing other than what is required for immediate use, unless some method of preserving is considered and practised. I am familiar with all the preserving methods and found they are suitable for some things but not all, so devised a method that is applicable to all plant food, namely juicing. It could be "souping" if you like. Juicing is relatively easy with the tools available. Dehydrating is just another method of preserving, which has its attractions.

I tend to avoid the commercial food supply as much as possible,for the many reasons enunciated by various people and in the media. This means I can accept it, or do something about it. I chose to act.

I enjoy all food, but eat to live not live to eat. I eat the typical Western food on social occasions. Often knowing that is is not a good choice. Weight control is important, and general good health, and I imagine these two issues are somewhat related to what one ingests. The supermarkets and eating establishments are well stocked with food that is nice toe eat, but I dispute the nutrition aspect of much of what is supplied. Sugar, salt and fat are all desirable by most people, but in my view not healthy in the quantities present for public consumption. Summary of my view and position.

No sorry I have to disagree with you. There is no way on earth that juiced brocolli or lettuce is palatable. I like both veg. but there is absolutely no chance you would get me to consume them in juiced form - not unless I was heavily sedated. :puke:

There should be some pleasure in food, it's not just there to keep us alive.

Can't go along with that,Durgan,to be honest sex and eating are about as good as life gets.

Given my age ,disposition,and general level of knackeredness , the latter tends to occupy more of my time.

I'd have to diagree on a couple of counts, Durgan.
1) straining it removes any roughage
2) your heat treatment denatures many of its nutrients

so what you're left with are a number of jars of green liquid of questionable sustenance.

Don't you eat anything that you need to actually CHEW, Durgan? I can understand (some) fruit juice but that's about it. :scratch: It can't be good for your teeth either. :?

One of these women recommend Juicing and eating Durgan Food, one doesn't and eats Cream and Fat and Sugar, and is the daughter of a Tory Chancellor. They are both the same age.

Now with the hole sex thing, (sorry) you have to agree which one you would rather have dinner with?

When Eve quit chasing Adam around the Garden of Eden, she learned to cook food. Thank goodness. The human race has never looked back. Sorry the raw cooked debate is in strong favour of cooked. Often our choice is decided by the vegetable. Often the nutrients are simply not available when raw.

As to roughage. This is not a human requirement. I have never seen humans out grazing on grass. Roughage and fibre are two different things. Fibre is almost microscopic, and roughage is almost completely cellulose. This probably should not be ingested, unless your are a horse. For digesting you must be as ruminate with several stomachs like a cow. Meat has absolutely no fibre.

Now study the pictures of this particular juicing effort. The amount of roughage was about one large tablespoonful. The roughage is identical when raw or cooked. Imagine how fine the teeth reduce the material.

Now you suggest all that is present is liquid of questionable sustenance. Now compare this to an equivalent commercial can of juice,. I suggest my juice is almost a complete food not like the commercial stuff with all the fibre removed water added and some, vitamin D added, sugar, and colouring. People somehow assume this is real juice. My tomato juice is absolutely delicious, one of my favourites.

Suppose you have six comparable lettuce pants. What do you do with them? If teeth are of concern one could chew on handfuls of pristine grass, hardly an issue.

You start your reply with a fairytale, it doesn't get any better.

You are not hurting anyone, and your opinion is. just. that. yours, I for one find enjoyment in things which arn't practical or essential, or basically who is right or wrong makes no difference, juice away, I have Rare Roast Beef and Yorkshire Puddings with Roast Potatoes carrots and brocolli for my Tea!
