A 25 foot row of parsnip seed was planted. Method is to mark the row, rototill, flatten surface, place seeds along row about five inch spacing, water, place supports and place board over the row.The supports under the boards allows space for the shoots to grow without distortion,removed after germination.This method insures the soil remains moist, and when it rains the seeds do not get washed out of position. Germination is almost 100% using this method with little care required.

iv got an abundance of parsnip seeds which are going out of date and need to be panted this year.
ill give this ago. would it be better with something transparent instead of a wooden board so the light still gets through? dont they need the light to germinate?
we're going to have parsnips coming out of our ears this year but at least they sell for a decent amount at the market so we should make some money off them.

Seeds do not need light to germinate. There are some exotic exceptions. Repeat after me. Immediate4ly after germination apply the light, preferably from the Sun.

My method for planting parnips involves ... um... actually, nature plants them for me. Turns out they've become invasive in parts of the US, I never had to buy a single seed. The wild ones are genetically the same as the garden ones, although if the soil is heavy or rocky the roots won't grow as big.

The wooden stakes mark where the seed potato is located. When the potatoes are dug the vegetation is not visible, and using the stake as a guide, one can eliminate of bit of work by digging in the right area. There are only 70 potato plants so they are relatively easy to mark. Motivated by laziness, and less likely to spear new potatoes with the fork.

Parsnips germinated. Upon removing the board to replant the seeds, it was found the seeds had germinated in about 18 days.Lucky me.
