Rapid growing hedging suggestions?

What do other people in your area use? That should give you a clue as to what works in your climate. Bear in mind that anything that grows fast will need lots of pruning.

I've found that laurel will grow from a cutting just popped straight into the ground. It's quite slow growing but evergreen and IMO looks really nice. Don't know if it would grow in your area though. Beech is quite quick growing, keeps it's leaves in winter and can be cut for firewood.

Dog roses are great for wildlife and give hips that you can use for rosehip jelly or syrup.

Does lavender grow in your part of the world? Kept neatly trimmed it makes a great, low, hedge with the advantage of the flowers and smell. Great around the front gate.

All great ideas what i need to do is change the dogs daily beach walk and take here into the village i think in line with my answer in my getting cuttings thread (about a mile away) that will allow us to see what else is growing hereabouts.

Certainly privet works as we have a mangled in part front hedge of it so going to attempt to take as man cuttings as i can from it, as another large part will be getting removed as soon as the roads dept drop the kerb for new driveway so may as well make use of the remaining scrap bits as i need probably twice as much again just to complete the front.....

Trail and error sounds good anything i can getbi am willing to try most likely in a nursery bed first if it survives there in it would be planted in the main garden, with no order, no plan, no real idea what it will end up like all i am determined i will get is the architypal roses round the front door if possible the white picket fences will come later
