top 5 films

Post: # 24913Post Andy Hamilton »

If you had to reccomend your top 5 films what would they be? If you are anything like me then this list will change from month to month. At the moment I think it would have to be in no order of preferance

Jean de Florette
Repo man
A room for Romeo Brass
24 hour party people

and then perhapshighlander as I have seen it 100s of times (and yes it is very dated now) but then it perhaps comes joint 5th with withnail and I and the first star wars films.

Desparately Seeking Susan (the first film I went to see underage, tarted up to the nines and prob fooling no-one)
Addams Family (+Values)
Nightmare Before Christmas (and Sleepy Hollow, and Batman, and most other Tim Burton...)
I was a male war bride (Hands in the bath scene)
Monty Python Life of Brian (but Holy Grail coming VERY close second)

Its unfair, now I think about it there are so many more!

I'm not sure I've watched 5 films. Well, not lately, anyway.

Monsieur Hulot's Holidaywould have to go on the list, though. I remember walking home from the cinema with my dad, and he had to stop walking he was laughing so much - he laughed till he wept.

Certainly The Hill for a bit of gritty, black and white wartime drama.

Quite possiblyToo Late The Hero, in a similar vein to The Hill.

Hmm... Gonna have to have a think for the other two.

Not going to do my top 5 as too difficult, it depends so much on your mood at the time, but my favourite film is Amelie, it will restore your faith in humanity, it's funny, heart warming and just wonderful. I highly recommend it it. Jean de Florette and Manan Des Sources are also in my top 10.

The Sound of Music - seen it gazillions of times and I never tire of seeing it again. Love it!

The only other film which I've seen more than twice and enjoyed is Out of Africa. And I enjoyed Bridget Jones Diary which I've seen twice. Still waiting for the next one to come on TV!

I watched that Amelie film (although it had a different title in French). It is the first film I watched in French (hopefully the last too!) and it was sooooooo hard to follow (had to read the French subtitles to understand) and really really boring and there was no plot or story or anything! I found it a real chore to get to the end - only did it because a French friend lent it to me! Nah I don't 'get' French films - didn't like Chocolat either and gave up on that one after half an hour - found it incredibly boring too.

Among my favourite films are Fargo, Lord of the Rings (is it cheating to count all three as one film?), Erin Brockovich, School of Rock and The Matrix. However, there are plenty more vying to get in - for example, I really ought to represent animated cartoons (The Incredibles?, Shrek?... but what would I drop?) and The Blues Brothers definitely deserves a mention (but would that come instead of School of Rock)....

Let's just say I like films!

good news for you (and me) in July then if you have a digibox, free film four

Well there are some diverse films mentioned so far. I will have to watch Monsieur Hulot's Holiday - my mum has it at home as it is one of her favorites.

My top film of all time is Reds; closely followed by The Milagro Beanfiled War - get that one if you can, it's brilliant. I'd also put the Manon etc films in my list, and March of the Penguins which I've just seen.

Last time I went to the cinema was to see Braveheart................
