Have just finished putting in 6 new raised beds, and am planning to install auto watering system and have obtained two 1000 litre tanks, which I have raised 4ft above garden level. I require about 80 metres of drip tube plus fittings, which will put way me way over budget, so have been looking at Drip Tape which cost's a fraction of the price. Has anyone any experience using, half inch Drip Tape and would I have any problems going for a gravity feed system.
Thanks for any ideas, Eddy

Re: Drip Tape
I'm not entirely sure what drip tape is as opposed to the round black seep hoses. We bought some flat green plastic 'seep' hoses from Lidl at a fraction of the price of the proper seep hoses but if you turn the water pressure up too high you get tiny jets of water going off in all directions. The water only comes out of one side and you don't know which side until you set it up. It twists easily and gets clogged up easily. In short they are bloody useless and were a total waste of money, as they just couldn't/didn't water like the proper black seep hoses (and half the time were shooting water over the lawn!).
I won't use them any more, so if that's the sort of thing you meant they really are not worth it.

Re: Drip Tape
Thanks MMM, after reading your reply I have decided to take your advice and go for tube rather than tape, and at the moment I am setting up a gravity fed system from the main rain and river water tank, through a sand filter to the two 1000 lts tanks and hopefully, if we will have enough pressure to to run the system without the use of a pump, we live in Hopes. Any way thanks for your reply and as soon as I finish I will take a photo or two and let you know how it works out.
Regards, to your young old Fella,
Eddy

Re: Drip Tape
It's a better long term investment Eddy as our black round ones have lasted for years although they are quite hard to get set up to start with and require some pegging down, well that's cos they've been rolled up in the barn over winter I suppose and don't like to straighten up! But they are an absolute godsend for my spuds and round some of my fruit trees I can just move them about without too much difficulty. Look forward to seeing a piccy. Hope you are well and love to your lovely lady as well xx.
