music that has moved you !!!

Post: # 247182Post old tree man »

This may seem wierd, but have you ever listend to a piece of music that has really moved you emotionally, i love a huge range of music from classical to heavy metal but there are some pieces that have really made me stop and sit and even send shivers down my spine and yes even to tears its been that beautiful, two of my favourite classics are debussy claire de lune and the girl with the flaxen hair,
another classic sound is led zeppelin the rain song and of course stairway to heaven, its amazing what mood dictates the music you listen to, i could go on for hours when it comes to wonderful music wether its folk, rock, blues or anything.

There are several on my list:
Who knows where time goes and Knockin on heavens door by Sandy Denny.
Tangerine by Led Zep.
Don't turn away by Man.
Dust in the wind by Kansas

There are several others and maybe I will add these later.
Has anyone seen the plot, I seem to have lost mine?

When I was a lad, I was learning to play the Euphonium in a brass band. I took music home to practice, one of these pieces was "Danny Boy" the Irish ballad. After murdering it a few times, I became quite good at the rendition and played it for my Dad who was quite literally in tears when I'd finished.

No he wasn't in pain!! He just loved the song and especially the lyrics Which of course you have to imagine if you're listening to the tune. It was only afterwards that I found the lyrics and understood why he felt like he did. Some songs convey a really powerful message!

I get goosebumps listening to the Dam Busters March, The 1812 Overture, Elgar's Nimrod and several other pieces.

A hymn "As I kneel before you"
"Everybody hurts" REM
"Nimrod" played by any military band
"I vow to thee my country"
The song sung for the Irish rugby team "Ireland's Call"
These and many more will do it for me.
