What can I say, it is a permaculture must-read. The art of doing nothing. Of superlowmaintance farming without plowing, tilling, pesticides, herbicides, promoting the plants natural strength and letting nature do what she does best =).

This is true, though some of the approaches should translate to most climate zones. A fine example of how we could potentially feed ourselves in a post-hydrocarbon world.

Alternating rice and winter grain on the same field is prob not possible in europe (def not for me), no, but growing veggies among your fruittrees, returning the fosfor you take away (such as returning all the straw to the grain field) and using chickens for pest control are all sound :P.

I also like the thought of not plowing. I actually had a think about that the other day, before I heard of this dude, it seemed like a lot of labour and a lot of danger involved in baring the earth. I will definitely try to grow some type of grain using his method, starting on a very small area, a couple of square meters.
