This coming Winter

Hello there ,

last winter was long and cold , should not happen that often according to the global warming clan .
This winter has started even earlier .We are in minus 6 degrees now and will be for the coming week .

I have heard predictions from the Polish media saying it will be the coldest winter in a thousand years .
Also the German media is saying it will be worse than last year .

What has ye all heard ? Anything interesting , and what do yous expect ?

winter is predicted to be Long and Cold in USA again this year too.
they call it El' Nino or la Nina ???

It certainly FEELS cold in the Charente Maritime at the moment despite having a full complement of doors and floors on our ground floor for the first time, a huge log fire burning in the living room, a wood burning range working flat out in the kitchen and a newly discovered working fireplace lit on the first floor. We have snow forecast, currently it's raining and feels very cold, icy and miserable outside.

The goats have their new thick jackets on and are bedded down with plenty of strawin a barn, the ducks and hens are cuddled into a huge pile of wood shavings in their house, Morris lurcher has taken over the hearth and even the part time cat is lying by the kitchen range on a cushion. Somehow I think it might be a very long winter and this is supposed to be the south of France...

It's not global warming, it's climate change.

Some climate scientists are saying that colder winters here may become more frequent. All to do with the gulf stream shifting apprently. Two theories I've seen are that this is caused by fresh water from ice caps desalinating sea water in the north Atlantic (Thats the one they "use" in The Day After Tomorrow) or by a lack of difference in temperature between the tropics and northern hemisphere will mean that the cool air drop will not be the same and therefore no gulf stream.

local folkloric weather predictions has it as a very cold winter this year - but not necessarily long.

I found out yesterday that "hoeing" in a Horrticultural, rather than recreational, sence in the Hard frost really gets the weeds moved! Easy work.

With the long winter last year I really think it did the fruit trees allot of good.

We live next to a river, so cold beats wet any time. ( The fact I have lots of wood helps!)

I heard someone from the Weather Club on Breakfast say they predict a dryer than average winter, with temps around average. I think Rob Lowe and the rest of the Bratt pack have joined.
