But I've never slept at Anne A's house so I couldn't honestly say that I've woken up and grinned at her garden!mrsflibble wrote:don't know if that one's valid here dude, I think we all get that!!Anne A wrote: 10. Wake up every morning and look at my garden and grin.

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: 10 things I've done that you probably haven't
This is a hard one and a great thread - thanks OP for the idea.
OK - here are min (and not nearly as interesting as some of the ones I have just read through)
1. Sold a set of electric security gates to Tom Jones, and confused his wife with the cleaning lady.
2. 'Did' mushrooms once and only once - spent nearly 12 hours curled in feotal ball under a kitchen table and still have bad dreams about what I saw.
3. Have been the only competitor (not to mention the only female competitor) to take part in all three events of a three day Land Rover trial/safari/winch challenge.
4. Have kept and successfully bred rock pythons for general sale in the UK.
5. Once had a car (a Morris Marina) that was so rotten but had no money to fix it, that I taped black bin bags into the boot so that from a distance you could not tell that there was quite literally no floor pan in it.
6. Left home at 16 to live in Canada with the man of my dreams - what a nightmare!
7. Lied about my age at 17 and signed with an employment agency who sent me out to work as a nanny for a BBC news presenter - they never checked my ID or references in any way, and I lived in their house for 4 months.
8. Bi-lingual as a child, Polish and English, I studied Latin, Ancient Greek, French, German and Russian, and now have a decent smattering of Spanish, Italian and Dutch - and my careers advisor at school never once suggested anything to do with languages as an option.
9. Was banned from History and Religious Studies GCSE level, for knowing more facts and figures and being articulate enough to argue and disagree with my teachers, and had to get a dispensation for my GCSE's as I did not study a humanities subject which was compulsary at the time.
10. Got so drunk at the town fete last year that I don't remember much beyond the first couple of hours (apparently there was singing and can can-ing on tables), so much so, that my mum is flying out this year for the fete so that she can keep an eye on me!

Re: 10 things I've done that you probably haven't
Based on last year's performance we currently have
1 mother flying over to 'take care' of me
2 friends sleeping in the spare room (they came last year and were directly responsible for the amount of red wine drunk - at least I think they were, and I have to blame someone as my mum is coming)
2 friends sleeping on an air bed in the living room
2 friends and their son in the tent in the garden
so - open house here!
Pontaumur, Dept 63 - Friday 18th July - kick off with fireworks, Saturday 19th carnival rides, huge firework display set to music, Sunday ends with a dance and fireworks.

Re: 10 things I've done that you probably haven't
Haven't finished reading everyone's lists yet, and I surely can not top the wildest, but here goes my list:
1) Packed up and moved to Europe, not knowing a soul, on a six-month return ticket, and stayed fourteen years.
2) Sang with the Bavarian State Opera.
3) Learned enough German Sign Language for the Deaf to teach English to Germans who were deaf.
4) Met my SO by knocking on the door of his very cool 1962 Airstream to ask about his house. (I'd never seen him, or such a great Airstream before.)
5) Paid cash for my house.
6) Smile skippingly as I walk down my hall, each morning, and think, "It's mine!. It's mine!"
7) Moved to one of the strangest places in the world, just to be near my folks.
8) Baked three dozen peanut butter cookies during the last hour to give to my sweetheart!
9) Studied enough genealogy to be able to tell about the lives of my great-great-grandparents, and some farther back.
10) Can't decide, what to put here. More later.

Re: 10 things I've done that you probably haven't
1) wandered round a disused mental asylum ( 10 years + its been empty) and have some great photos
2) scared ALL the midwives on the ward after i had little one by first > being admitted with a suspected blood clot, having an emergency c-section,clot turned out to be nothing, then collapsed with seriously low blood sugar, almost slipped in to a coma only to be suspected of having MRSA, then pnemonia, then an infection from the blood transfusion i already had, had all kinds of drugs, then a clot on my lungs ( i was radioactive for 24 hours )all to walk out of hospital a week later after being pumped with all manner of drugs and only remembering there were 6 people in the room while i had my bikini line shaved!
my midwife told me the rest...
3) moved out of home ( well forced more or less) at 15 and put my self through alevels and university
4) never broken a bone ( trust me as a kid i tried!!)
5) went out for a night out with only a fiver ( mates birthday was broke) found a tenner in the road then came home with £20in my wallet !
i still cant work that one out
6) was asked for ID the other day as the woman thought i was 16!! i was with my mother and still wouldnt believe i was well over the legal age!
7) saved a mans life when he had a heart attack
i will have more to add there have been loads of random things but im not sure there unique

Re: 10 things I've done that you probably haven't
My exploits aren't anywhere near as exotic as most of the others but here goes:
1. Set out the markings for the foundations of our house at night using the car headlights for illumination 'cos we totally underestimated the time it would take and the digger driver was booked for 7.30 the following morning.
2. Moved into new house with no kitchen, no internal doors no upstairs floor because rats had moved into the caravan
.
3. Bought a herb nursery with no capital, no horticultural experience & no saleable stock and traded at a flower show 6 weeks later.
4. Drove a hand-painted transit custom "tour-bus" to the IOM for my boyfriend's band when I was 17.
5. Got kicked out of Girl Guides for organising a protest over the leader's daughter always carrying the flag at church parade.
I'm struggling now .....
6. Have a goat that likes to come into the kitchen every morning after miking.
7. Have a resue boxer dog that does a fantastic "dinner dance" before you feed him.
Not sure that they count as things I've done...
8. Having struggled to speak any German (didn't take it at school) during a driving hol to Heidleberg fluently thanked someone in German when we were driving back through France
9. Started piano lessons aged 47.
10. Pursuaded my Dad to let me start horse riding lessons when I was 3.

Re: 10 things I've done that you probably haven't
1. Fitted a dental brace to a dog. I was newly out of dental school and took a job with a completely crazy dentist in Santa Barbara, California. He had some equally crazy (and rich) clients. Fortunately for me we sedated the dog (a boxer) first. I didn't end up having to do the adjustments every week but I do know it worked and the dog went on to win shows.
2. Had a long conversation in a Swenson's Ice Cream parlour in Palm Springs with a lovely old guy who was waiting for his golfing partner. He told me joke after joke. After they had left the barman told me it was Bob Hope, telling the same old jokes and not leaving a tip as usual. I think he was about 97 years old at the time.
3. Learned to speak Kanyen'keha - ie Mohawk. Not much use in the Charente Maritime to be honest...
