Just a sweet little tale to lighten everyone´s Saturday!
The seven year old I collect from school spends several hours with us each day before her mother collects her. She speaks a little English and loves the music we play or which Mack sings, often joining in the choruses with the kids. It was a concert at her school on Friday and she asked if all of us would help her to do her "piece". So Mack taught her the words and she sang Christy Moore´s Nancy Spain (in a lovely Irish accent) with Mack accompanying her on the guitar and Luca and Pia being the "backing group". It was just so lovely! The very best bit was when some of the ex-pat parents joined in the chorus. The poor child was applauded so much she was squirming with a mixture of sheer pleasure and embarrassment by the end.
Perhaps we´ll start a whole new tradition of Irish music down here...

Wonderful - I remember seeing Christy Moore when he was in Planxty many moons ago. Great to hear it's still going strong - in France

Funnily enough he lives about half a mile down the road from me, and I've never seen him .. either locally or on stage.
Mind you Graham Norton lives closer and although I've seen him in his car, I would run a mile to see him on stage .... in the opposite direction.

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: Nancy Spain comes to the Charente Maritime
It was really very sweet. Mack hammed up the Irish accent a bit when he taught her and she sounds lovely and now wants to learn more. We will refrain from teaching her the Shane MacGowan one about the Fairytale of New York though!
Luca & Pia were desperate to show of their version of Irish dancing and can now barely wait to start school and take part in the concert. Unfortunately they look like a pair of dislocated puppets thundering around so I'm not sure whether we shall be asked to run classes anytime soon!

I hadn't heard (or thought of) Nancy Spain for donkey's years. Now I've had a good few hours dragging out old vinyl and searching YouTube, reliving my folky youth. Thanks for the reminder, Alice
And I can well imagine the pleasure of the little performer when some of the audience joined in. Lumpy throat, or what?
