Slugs in the House

Hi can anyone give me any advice on keeping slugs at bay.....they keep getting into the kitchen......we back on to a an old orchard and it is quite dark and damp in the small back yard...think this doesn't help matters.

Went to clean out the grill pan today after my step son had used it and what he thought and I did was an old oven chip that had been re-heated a few times on second inspection may not of been .....better not tell him....
enough is enough and it has to stop

No idea, sorry! Ours cats bring the things in stuck to their fur and we regularly find silver trails across the cork tiles - often without finding the culprit!

The only think I can suggest is buy some nematodes and blitz the outside with them - although I think it might be a bit late this year. It cuts their numbers down dramatically so if you did it for a few years it should sort your problem. But I can't think of anything immediate other than leaving a lettuce leaf in the middle of the floor then gathering them up as they feast

thanks for the advice but my veggie nature won't let me kill them....(tempting as it is) ....used to have a real problem in our old house ....(which was very old and damp)...looks like the little b****ers have followed us here ...

We used to have this problem at a previous house. We put a line of salt along the threshold & they stopped coming in. None were killed; just detered! You'll need to renew it regularly, but it does work. If you think they're coming in else-where (windows or airbricks for example) salt those too. A posher method would be a copper strip, but that would need to be kept free of tarnish & would be expendsive! (Fine table salt is better than the type that goes in a hand grinder.)

Ann have tried salt on many occasions and they still get in....must admit its not as bad in this house Ie not every night ....but its still not good....

This thread made me chuckle, as I came into the kitchen this morning to find my son studying the slugtrails on his shoes! He thought they were very pretty - bless him!

Have no idea how to get rid of the little blighters!

I agree with muddy witch - salt or copper come to mind. It would be good to find where they're coming in - is there a crack in your brickwork or something?

We get slugs in our kitchen; I can only assume they are coming in through the hole in the wall for the washing machine gubbins. Nothing nicer than a slug squishing between your bare toes in the wee small hours.....

A friend of mine 'collects' them under the skin of a halved orange or grapefruit, and then, in the morning, leaves it up on the bird table or tips it into the upturned lid of her compost bin for the birds.
