Hi from Anglesey
Hi all I live in the centre of Anglesey and am surrounded by farmland. I don`t have an allotment as yet but I am hopeing to get one. If I can find any near here.
At the moment I have fruit trees in a small garden and some growbags for veg.

Hello Ray, what a lovely part of the country to be from. Do you live anywhere near Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch? I remeber going there as a child.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with finding an allotment.

Hedgewitch has got the spelling right. For anybody that is interested the direct translation is :-
"Church Mary a hollow white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool church tysilio (saints name) cave red."
Acording to a book I read this was not the original name. In Victorian times the local traders wanted to attract business from the new craze of holidays. The leader of the trade assocation came up with adding on to the name of the town and then advertising a visit to the place with the longest place name in the world.
A map I have from the early 1800s shows it as being called Llanfairpwllgwyngyll which translates as Marys church in a hollow of white hazel. Not direct of course.

Hello from opposite Anglesey.
I am lucky to have an allotment with reasonable soil. . I have access to manure from prize winning horses
The other allotment site in the town was recently (5 years ago?) relocated (land wanted for housing but used for sheep grazing at mo!) to a poor soil (builders rubble?) area and people have given up.

Hi Multiveg I`m not having any luck getting an alotment on Anglesey. The closest are at Holyhead about 15 mile from where I live and there is only one other alotment site on the island way over the other side.
I have emailed Holyhead council to see if I qulify for one there but have had no reply as yet.

The council didn't own the land for the allotments, it was a college (they do a lot of agriculture courses) and the lease had finished.
The new! site people just deserted - it has a lovely setting overlooking the straits but so many stones, etc. I met someone who had one of those sites on another messageboard forum! I can understand relocation - say new ground perhaps free from white rot & clubroot, but to have the new site just unworkable... Apparently, the original location for my allotment site was where T***o is now.
From the train, you can see some lovely allotments (quite a large site I believe) at Llanfairfechan.
