You know you are an Anglophile when...

Post: # 200906Post Jessiebean »

You've scanned the headlines of the times and The Daily Mail but it isn't until the afternoon you hear any Australian News.... we have our first female prime minister now and I didn't even know...(there wasn't an election- just a leadership change..I probably might have noticed if there was an election)...hmmm I did notice when the British Prime Minister changed though...anyway I will just muddle along down here in Tasmania and like most Tasmanians, try to pretend we are a spare bit of England rather than the a@#$end of the Colonies!

I've just googled to read about it but.........

Google doesn't know yet!!!!!

It's still about Rudd and the occasional mention of Howard.

Anyway the Daily Mail showbiz gossip is much more interesting than politics.

Yep definitely reading the wrong papers - it was covered in the Guardian, the Independent and the BBC (probably much more, but that's what I read over the past few days).

She said she reads the Times but for the Daily Mail explanation you need to see the recent thread about tea.

I was in a bar in Queensland ( about 14 yrs ago), & the locals were telling me about events here, in Norwich!! ( of which i had no idea)...... you don't always know what's occuring on your own door-step!!
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

Your new Prime Minister is actually Welsh, you know. She's from Barry. Can't wait for her to stand up in parliament and shout 'Oh, wass occurin'.
I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

Everyone's Welsh these days, If I hadn't been reading the Daily Mail I wouldn't have known that that guy Owain whatsit from the Mentalist was Welsh (yes, despit the name.. Owain.. hmmm I think I better cut back on reading the Mail.. my brain is turning to goo!). Sadly that kind of enriched my life a little bit.
But yes our new lady Prime Minister is sort of Welsh. Her hero is Nye Bevan evidently. The Prime Minister she took over from looked like the Milky Bar kid(do you have The milky bar kid?) and spoke fluent Chinese. I had nothing against him...mind you I am deeply suspicous of anyone who wants to be a politician.. they are obviously the wrong kind of person to run the country.
Pumpy- yes Australians are generally in denial and can tell you all about what's hapening anywhere else...
You know I think there has now been more discussion on the forum about Julia Gillard then there was about the British election!

Hi Jessie, i would guess that your politicians are a damn-sight more interesting than ours..................our lot have all been found out for the corrupt lot of so-&-so's that they are, & now have to watch their P's & Q's (yeah right!). Are your lot as corrupt, or have'nt they been found-out yet?? :dontknow:
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.
