Definitely learned that being united by a common subject (but not being too precious about it) is a smashing way to meet lots of lovely folk.

Definitely learned that having 'somewhere' to go with likemindeds helps me stay sane in my daily life surrounded by consumerism gone bonkers.

Lots of practical things but the ones I use all the time are finally making reliably nice bread and yoghurt.

Oh and Susie's honey-oat bars & bara brith deserve an honourable mention :flower:

I've learn't that just because the old boy's don't do 'organic' down the allotment, that it doesn't mean I shouldn't stick up for myself when they start spraying willy nilly. (now they have to stick to inside their OWN allotment - not paths etc!)

And that I really, r e a l l y, REALLY, R E A L L Y !! want some chickens, (thank you JulieSherris for sowing that little seed) and with just a wee bit more persuation to be worked on the OH and I'll be there.

Oh, and to echo whats been said before, I'm not a member of any other forum or site and I wouldn't have it any other way, it's a grand place to come visit when I've got 5 minutes, and it really cheers me to know that I've got all you guy's on my 'virtual doorstep' when I need a bit of advice or guidance.

I've learned tons on here.

When we moved up here part of my reason was to simplify my life and start doing a lot more for myself. We already grew veg and had an awful attempt at wine making :pukeright: but coming on Ish encouraged me to expand my horizons and we've since made some lovely country wines and the Ish beer recipe is fantastic  I've had a go at cheese making. My 5 minute bread (courtesy of uller) is amazing - the breadmaker is languishing at the back of a cupboard. And thanks to Odsox the polytunnel is now in year round use - although sometimes the weather's so bad we can't get to it (30ft away)

I've also learned to live with my limitations - in all areas but mostly in my business. I wanted to be totally green but then discovered that I had to use plastic. I can't do everything at once but I can still work towards my goals (getting near is better than not trying).

Nobody here berates me for wrapping my soaps in plastic, because we still use coal, have UPVC windows or any of the other "bad" things we do (I asked for advice on another forum and the only replies were to tell me to stop heating my house instantly  ) it's just accepted that we'll change it when we can and good advice has been offered to help us on our way.

And the support we all give each other is fantastic.

And that's just a few things that spring to mind. On the downside, all the talk of chicken diseases has nearly convinced me I don't want them :pale: ....but not quite

For me this site is where it all began. I have learned soo much in the past few years, cloth nappies, soap nuts, growing your own even in a stupidly small space, upcycling, winemaking, recycling, soapmaking and that you don't have to do all or nothing I can still feel good about the stuff that I do rather than be made to feel guilty about the things that I can't manage.

I now sew my own clothes, grow veg and keep chickens in the middle of London, something I wouldn't have dreamed possible, I make my own soaps and have made cosmetics too. All of these things have come from little seeds sewn by ideas i have seen on here. So a big thankyou to all of you, it's is lovely being surrounded by lots of different but like minded people too. :grouphug:

The corgette cake, elderflower cordial and the whole bumwipes thread have revoloutionised my household so an extra  for them.

Have you got the recipe Mike, and do they grow in the wild like buttercups, and are they a related species.
