so am Ithe only person to actively cultivate dandelions then?
i grow them in a planter and keep an eye on any in my beds (when i see it appear it gets dug up and moved) 'cos they're excellent guineapig food, the flowers are delicious human food and I use the roots to make a coffee substitute.
The Dandelions can stay.

No - my son plants them as well :-D and then makes sure that they are well watered. Wish he'd plant them somewhere else though as we've not got much space for planting the veg.

Re: The Dandelions can stay.
I have the local beekeepers association hive here as it was being vandelised where it was before so I am lucky enough to join in with the talks. Dandelions ARE VERY IMPORTANT for bees says our 72year old teacher..it has just the right size pollen for the starving bees after winter, exactly what they need to build up the hive while they wait for the other flowers.., you can see it on thier legs bright yellow...so I have not chopped any! Not all flowers are the right size..brambles are good too
