cold frame with perspex?

I can only say that I imagine so, if plants will grow under perspex or polycarbonate. But I am not a scientific person and didn't even know there was a glass vs. perspex debate in existance (before I found this thread)!

I don't see why your picture frame wouldn't work.

I have cold frames in glass (from old windows) in clear plastics donated from the local scrap man from some shop fittings, some perspex, one from an old shower screen and some old caravan windows too, and they all work equally well.

I don't know anything about the scientific light refractions - all I was after was something that let light in, to warm the soil and stopped frost - frost being my biggest danger in the garden all the way through May still, and was strong enough to withstand a hail storm and a snow fall.

Hey CT,

I had a coldframe that was all perspex -and it was fine, so I would say yes. Plus I saw a greenhouse in Homebase yesterday that was almost entirely perspex - not even the double walled stuff.

So I say go for it.
