Go on, I dares you.....
Following the furore about the proposed plans to build a feed-lot for 8100 moo-cows in the fair Midlands, whilst out shopping (ho-hum, at the one beginning with T), I decided to vote with my wallet and buy organic butter. I don't normally buy butter, I used to buy a certain sunflower spread in a rather useful tub that can be used for a multitude of things, but since the company have (shortsightedly) decided to discontinue their very useful tubs AND up the price, I decided to revert to butter. Besides, tis better for making biscuits.
So, I gets my butter home....organic, certainly. But is it British? I have searched the packaging, and all I see is 'produced and packaged in the UK'. So that could actually mean that the milk is from overseas, and has just been turned into butter in the UK, couldn't it? Is there any way of telling from the EU code they put on it?
Sorry if that all sounds terribly, terribly thick............

Re: Call me thick.........
There was something on the telly the other night about meat and how if it has been transformed into something they are able to say 'produced in the UK' e.g. bacon, even though the pork actually came from the Netherlands or wherever. So I guess it is possible they do the same with dairy produce.

Here in France they have to put on the label if any ingredient come from outside the country "Transformed in France" at least so they tell me.

I'm thick too! Unless you have a whole day to spend reading labels in the dreaded supermarket. I get really angry at the way we are being conned about absolutely everything! pbf.

It is entirely possible that it is not british milk - why not call their customer service line and ask? would draw attention to the issue at the same time.
It should be easy to tell where our food comes from by glancing at the shelf, so very frustrating when you can't tell, even by scrutinising the label!! GRR

Phew, thanks guys......I was staring and staring at the packet looking for the country of origin. It has got a Soil Association logo on it, but again I'm not sure if that applies to the produced butter or the original milk.
I think I shall phone their customer service line, I've got a few things I'd like to rant about so I'll just add this one to the list.......
