Free (working) holiday in Portugal on offer.
Free (working) holiday in Portugal on offer.
I hope this is the right section to post this, if not mods, please move to a better one.
We are looking for a couple, or two strong outdoor type females to come to stay with us for about 10 days during middle to late April. We can offer great accomodation in our beautiful rental cottage (we generally rent it out so its nice) and 3 meals a day, we'll expect 6 hours work per day, (8.30-3.30) 6 days a week, sats off, by then the weather should be warm and sunny but we cant promise that... april is a funny month, it could rain non stop too! There is a pool but at that time of the year you'd have to be VERY hardy types... mid you it could also be in the high 70s... we never know..
We are looking for help with clearing some terraces, log collecting and chopping, working in the veggie plot with me, planting, weeding ect, just the normal everyday stuff we do all the time, an extra couple of pairs of strong arms makes such a huge difference in our work load.
Food - we'll provide you breakfast stuff to sort yourselves as we are not 'morning folk' the other meals will be eaten with us at the house, and generally will be veggie, although we do eat meat but only a little now and then. But it will be good wholesome homecooking, with organic veggies we grew ourselves. And plenty of it! A odd glass of red wine too...
We'll take you into town on the odd evening to show you Portuguese life at its best, the rest of the time you are free to do as you wish. Just be aware we are 5klm from town, which while it has all amenities, it is a small rural market town, and you'll not find a nightclub or fast food...
There is no TV or internet at our place, but if you are the kind of people who can enjoy peace n quiet , reading, walking (we are on the edge of a eucalypt forest) and must love dogs, and generally enjoy working outside , then this is the place for you. For anyone who has ever wanted to 'opt out' then this is a way you can try it out...
Sorry but no one with health problems as we are 85klm from a hospital, no children as my dog dislikes them more than I do. And preferably no smokers... we are open to discussion on the last one...
So, all you have to do is get a cheapy flight via Lisbon and a train to Pombal and we'll pick ypu up from there.... Ive just looked and Easyjet flights are about 30 quid each way the 3rd week in april ..Liverpool -lisbon and cheaper from London to Lisbon...
Interested?

The woofer site is a bit hmmmm scary... Ive only just managed to convine my OH to do this, so I thought someone off here would be a good compromise then if it works well we'll go the whole hog later in the year..

There's also HelpX - we have used them and had 3 excellent helpers and then a bad one. Who-ever you get I would recommend you have a contract type thing they can read and sign before starting. I can send you a copy of the one we use if you like.

oh that sounds fab. We don't do foreign holidays but that sounds like the sort of thing that could tempt us away from the UK. I'll ask the OH if he's interested.

After more discussion with his lordship, we've made a few changes.. the problem always was with accomodating helpers, the holiday cottage is our main source of income so to have it tied up with freebies, no matter how hard they worked, was always a problem, so now we can also offer....
Camping in our newly planted orchard... we'll provide a two man tent, a double airbed, a compost loo and solar shower , plus all the other stuff above... food ect.. this way we can fit someone in anytime...
hopefully this will help

We are also working on a caravan for voluteers to stay in so we can accomodate anyone who wants to come right throughout the year...
We have registered on helpx and just have to wait and see, Im so impatient, after so long persuaging 'him' that its a good idea, I want to capitalise on his change of heart as quick as I can...
