This goes back to points made by Muddypause:
I think a wiki site probably needs a critical number of people using it, so that any errors or sabotage gets spotted and corrected ... Overall, I think Wikipedia is a marvelous resource that reflects well about the nature of humanity (there are more good contributors than bad)
Wikepedia needs a number of volunteers to help remove unwelcome additions to the site, but just how is that different to a moderated forum exactly? I'd probably contribute to a similar site in the future, even if it's just a link or a photo of one of my plants. Most people visiting this site wish to share best practice and this is just another platform. I think (dangerous I know) that to not go ahead is giving in to a handful of idiots.

I think that's right chili...

I've added the rare species of shirleyshirlz to the wiki site... my first experience of such a site but yeah... having seen it I think it is a good idea and I'm sure there will be no shortage of posters here happy both to add details and keep an eye on the spammers etc.

It's only a test site, to try out the idea, and it's badly lacking in navigation tools. Hopefully the 'real' version will be easier to find your way around. I guess if it's not, then we have to wiki an improvement to it.

To edit a page, simply double click on it, or use the 'Edit Page' link at the bottom (you need to be signed in). Also note that the formatting of the text is completely different to the formatting on this forum, or, indeed, basic HTML (which is as far as my web design goes).

Yep it is just a test site at the moment to wet your appetites as it were. It will be modified so that there is more of a selfsufficientish feel to it, not totally sure what that will mean as yet but will have a go next week.

As for the navigation of it, we shall have to try a few ideas and see what works. As it is a comunity site I am not sure exactly how much input to put in.

Here's a wiki site that makes me laugh, not much to learn from it but you have to look carefully to spot the difference between it and thereal wiki

I know that this is double posting, but...
Just posting to let you all know I have added a Chili growing guide to the wikki site :bom: http://selfsufficientish.org/wikka.php?wakka=chili
Before I am shot down in flames :cussing: where my growing tips pertain to the cultivation of chili plants in Southern Britain, I have clearly flagged so in italics. It needs to be edited to include tips for planting in other climates and so please feel free to edit accordingly! It includes a section on pests and diseases plus short sections on history, health, nutrition and Scoville chemistry  . One day, before I die, and assuming that noone beats me to it, I shall get round to a section on pickling, drying, powders etc.
Any comments gratefully received.

That is a fantastic article mate, very informative. I was debating weather or not to put mine on the allotment once fully grown and you have anwsered my question, cheers.

I must sort out that site to have more of a user friendly feel to it. It is a bit of hotchpotch at the moment.

Working on a new look for this site at the moment (still) though, - not all linked up yet but I am working on it........

I've just edited you link, CM - one too many 'l's in selfsufficientish. Same mistake in the 'Poor peppers' thread, but I haven't got editing rights to that one.

Jolly good article BTW.

Thanks for the editing, Muddy!
By the way, does anyone know the best way to upload photos to the site (should I choose to -thinking it might break up the site a bit, otherwise it might prove to be a bit too long and dry for some people) :?

I can't log in to the Wiki site. Can someone please tell me what my user name is there? I think it is MollyMandy. I have been trying with that but it says to enter email address, even when I do that it says passwords don't match. ?????? :(

Did you register when it was first put up? It was just a dummy run at first and on another site. I thought I had transfered everything across. Looks like I must have missed your pages.......

Yep looks like they are still on the old site on http://sproutmag.org/Wikka/MollyMandy/

I have just moved them across toselfsufficientish.org have a look at
