What do you think of the new website/ forum?

Post: # 178907Post lovelygreenleaves »

There's opinions dotted around on different posts, so I thought I'd open a discussion on it. I like the main website, it looks good, a bit full on the main page, but it still looks ok (apart from the big advert at the top!) I wasn't keen on not being warned about when the forum would be played with though, it was awful for a while on my computer and I'm so glad it's sorted now!! I don't like the adverts taking up the side, but I do like the new header and the flickr photos. What do you think? :santa:

Methinks that, as this thread has recieved over 20 views but no-one has added their point of view, they're all doing as Granny taught; if you can't say some-thing nice, say nowt!

Hi MW, I'm not sure I understand your response - do you mean that people probably don't like it, or that you thought I wasn't being nice? I thought I was being nice!

OK, I'll join the not-nice club

On the main site, I think it looks very professional. It gives a kind of serious, academic feel, which I don't think is a bad thing. I actually quite like it. That said, I also liked it how it was, with a more relaxed, friendly feel (I think having pictures of people did that). So the new one or the old one, I'm happy. (That's not very helpful is it?)

For the forum, I too am missing the smilies :( . I assume it all looks the same on my computer as it does on everyone elses, so I'm going to mention the bit down the right side. It's better there than it was when it was on the left, but TBH I still feel it makes the message section look a bit squashed to one side. I'm not very good at accepting web changes, so I guess I'll get used to it if it's there to stay. On a positive note, I love the colourful pictures at the top. They really give a feel for what we're all about, and kind of brighten the place up. :sunny:

Can I just ask, did John actually ask our opinions? I can't help thinking if I'd done as much work on the site as he does I would be a bit peeved to have the likes of me coming on and criticizing.

Not that I'm aware of, but it didn't cross my mind that we wouldn't be allowed to talk about it. I think it would odd if we didn't discuss it, the website has changed a lot. I must add, I like being able to comment on the bottom of the main website posts now (maybe it was like that before, but I never noticed!)

I agree LGL, there's nothing wrong with a little discussion, good or bad. I agree with Rosendula that the main website looks more professional. Not sure about the ads, I understand that bills need to be paid and it's the norm for websites and forums, but the stuff coming up isn't very ish. Although I saw one before for someone else's foraging walks - Andy's got competition! I'm going to mention cups of tea lots of times again!

Off to have a cup of tea...

I did like it at first, but I'm not so sure now, I like the banner but I think the links to 'Home' etc are a bit lost in it.
I think it looks more like a blog now, especially the home page.
But somebody has worked hard on it, so like all changes I'm sure we'll get used to it.
